2007 Airstream Interstate Potential Purchase

My wife and I are considering purchasing a low mile 2007 Interstate. Are their any known reliability issues I should be aware of? Any current owners care to offer their thoughts or insight? Thanks in advance.

The Interstates are pretty rock solid reliable.
I met a guy at the mother ship with a 2007 that needed an EGR valve at about 60,000 miles.
We know a couple with a 2004 Interstate with 140,000 miles. The key fob has fallen apart. It takes 2 trips to a Mercedes dealership to get a new key fob. 1 trip to show them your title. Then they order the key. A 2nd trip to pick up the new key. They will get 2. I hope they have a new key for our big trip in less than 2 weeks. Otherwise they will be camping in their Chevy Express conversion van- no kitchen, no bathroom-

I have had an 06 for 7+ years.

153,000 miles, and love it.

Check out the paint system in particular. The most troublesome areas (which Maggie can probably confirm) seem to be door weatherstripping (peel back the weatherstripping to check for corrosion) and roof joints, which you'll need a ladder to check.

Low mileage on a 2007 could indicate batteries may need to be replaced soon. These rigs seem to work better when they are used often. I now have over 45,000 on my 2013 that I haven't yet had for two years. It's running well and all systems are working good. Routine maintenance is the key. Does this potential unit have any maintenance records?

Checking the maintenance records would be paramount. If you can review the MB maintenance req'ts vs the current mileage, it would be helpful.

While the Sprinter is pretty robust, be sure to check all of the Airstream systems for proper operation. By this time the early bugs that seem to plague the new ones should have been fixed so it just a matter of ensuring that all is well.

Good luck. Let us know how it works out.

I'll be taking my 2007 to Eaton Rapids for Urban Air this week. Love the Interstate. Sprinter has a turbo resonator problem, however. After two failures I replaced the plastic part with an aluminum after market part and have had no problems. KOW

Is that only on the 5 cylinder or does the V6 also suffer from that? What year did the changeover from 5 to 6 occur?

Mine is registered as a 2007 Airstream but it rides on a 2006 chassis with the T1N 5 cyclinder engine. My only problem has been the plastic turbo resonator which I replaced with the aluminum eliminator. Just traveled 3k miles in the past two weeks only problem was a running light that burned out. $2.50 and we were back on the road.

So the 2007 sprinter was the first with the V6?

We had the plastic turbo resonator replaced some years ago, too, at no charge, at a sprinter dealer near Knoxville, TN if I remember correctly.

Plastic resonator would split. Inexpensive fix, even if not under warranty. The aluminum is the way to go. Even if it did split the vehicle would still go down the road in limp mode, so you would not be stranded. Jim

yes, 2007 chassis is the first year of the 6 cylinder engine.
