Where Do Pets Come From
HOW DID DOGS COME TO BE??
A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"
Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."
And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how sel! fish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, " I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him
DOG."
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well"
And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration"
And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a **** one way or the other.

Cats and Dogs
Robert,
We have two cats and my youngest son still living with us just received a 5 yr. old boxer from an owner going into a nursing home. She is scared to death of the two male cats while they are just starting to warm up to her. When I drive up the driveway every day after work, those two cats come running across the yard because they know I get the greatest pleasure in talking to them as I pet each one. I get that warm and fuzzy feeling sorta like I had when I first got married. My wife says I talk to the cats too much! The cats tell me they really don't care.

Too funny!
I'll stick to my Labradors though, they make me feel good.

We have both - cats indoors, dog outdoors. It's great.
(We hope to train the dog to travel with us in the 310 at times. The cats would freak out!)

The difference between a cat and a horse is...
The horse doesn't throw up in your shoes.

Ha! Brad was mildly teasing one of the cats a little earlier and I joked that he had better watch it or the cat would throw up in his shoe! Life imitates art!
Anyone remember Fat Freddy's Cat and what he would do to Freddy's shoes...?

Donna's cat, Smoky Bear, talks to her like she understands and sadly, vice versa. I think they plot against me as he comes up 4'ish in the morning and rubs his face/whiskers in mine until I get up as I'm now wide awake and then Donna takes over the bed. Many times I've come back to find the cat snuggled up at the foot of the bed.
Now I'm starting to wonder having read these replies.

Oh yes, Smoky Bear surely knows exactly what he is doing!
Cats are OK but Dachshunds love to sleep behind your knees which is so awesome on a cold, winter night.

I had a tabby, named Tigger, who would do that. This was especially good on cold winter nights in Saskatoon while I was at university.

Dogs and Cats
I love that - "How Did Dogs Come To Be". Linda and I have 2 Siamese cats (14+ years old) and a Chesapeake Bay Retreiver (almost 5). The cats know how to get Buckeye going. He is so loyal and loveable, a little slow and little hard headed. I took him to obedience school when he was around 1, I was not sure we were going to graduate - its a good thing it was a "No Chessy Left Behind" school.
Here is the crew on our 13000 mile around the US trip this summer.
Pets are great....and what we wouldn't do for them?

That was a good one.

Over the years have had several cats and dogs. Used to train dogs in a past life. No pets right now but the neighbors cats come over almost every day to be combed. They know I don't comb them in the front yard so if they see me out they get my attention and then run to the back. I figure it helps to lower my blood pressure.

The Cat that Walked by Himself
All dog lovers (me) and cat lovers should re-read Kipling's 'Cat that walked by himself' from his Just So Stories. It's a quick read and will tickle many a rib! I'll bet more than a few of you read it to children in your life...

I always say that if you are stressed you need to pet a cat a few times from head to tail. Somehow the worries / stress seems to fly away each time your hand reaches the end of the tail. Of course it may take a few repeats of the action to be totally relieved.
