Sorry

Kevin and Prim,

So sorry you are feeling the loss of another. My memories are of Bandit sitting next to you with Pangji wrapped up on Prim's lap during our campouts. They are together again.

So sorry to hear about your latest loss. There's never enough time with our furry friends.

When Alki was sick we brought home what we joked was our 'back-up Eskimo', Barclay, and later added a rescue, his new 'sister' Navi. They fill our lives in ways I hadn't expected. I had thought Alki was that once in a lifetime dog, but now I realize they all are, in their own way.

Feeling for you in your loss. When we got our AS we intended to take our little Sempi with us. But Unfortunately that did not happen. We had to put her down shortlyn after we got our now "Sempi2" A/S. Took us 4 years before we were ready to get a new pup. We now have Sadie a Havamalt and took her on her first trip 1 week after we got her. S.he is a terrific traveler and loves to visit with other campers. Hope you will be able to find a new baby as soon as you are ready.

Kevin and Prim, Sorry to hear of your loss ... Someone sent me this quote...

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them.

And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart.

If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog,

and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

What we do for our pets...

I'm sure like most 'Streamers reading this thread, I couldn't imagine traveling without our pet. After recently losing one of our pets to "old age" a year ago, JAKI now travels without "Mighty VELCRO"...

We always travel with a small box of VELCRO's ashes, his paw print, and dog tag because he loved road-trips so much.

What a beautiful story.

How lucky that dog is to have such a devoted owner, and the owner to have that sweet dog.

Only those who experience those bonds can really understand,

road dog down

She never had any home other than an Airstream:15 years. Had to be put down in a typical road way after we drove from Ajo to Phoenix in the middle of the night to a emergency vet. We knew, I think she did as well. She made it on to the doghouse, but was not herself. Got strokes from both of us as we drove into what we all knew was coming. We miss her terribly.

I am so sorry for your loss, she was one lucky dog to be an Airstreamer full time. It's never easy to lose them, what a cutie.

So sorry to hear that Mike. It is so tough to lose a family member. You will be in our thoughts.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Such a dreadfully hard thing, to put a dog down.

May many happy memories comfort you,

Hemilaminectomy allowed our dog to walk again!

We recently learned the importance of having our dogs examined by a good veterinarian as soon as we see changes in the way our dogs walk. While on a recent camping trip we noticed our 6-year old Corgi, Tasha, could not keep up with our 10-year old Corgi, Mac, when going on walks.

Upon return home, we took her to our local vet, who started her on medications, but she lost the ability to use her back legs over the weekend, so our vet referred her to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego. She still had deep pain sensation in her back legs so she was a candidate for surgery, but the window of opportunity for success was closing quickly.

An MRI showed a herniated disc at T13-L1 and she had a left hemilaminectomy with fenestrations from T12-T13 to L2-L3 to remove large amounts of herniated disc material.

She is now home, walking, and making an excellent recovery. She is on an activity progression schedule with a full resumption of normal activities by Christmas.

We are thankful to the wonderful veterinarians and the state-of-the art veterinary hospitals of today... we just need to avail our pets to them in a timely manner!

See her detailed story with photos: "Shifting sands and disc"
