Lily is a very smart little
stinker.
She is a very aggressive chewer, having powerful jaws for a medium-sized dog, and loving her rawhide chews which our vet says are good for keeping her teeth clean. Lily has a cast-iron stomach, and digests these without difficulty.
The vet says to buy the big ones, of good quality, give her an hour or so a day with it, and put it up til the next day.....addressing my concern about her consuming an entire chew bone every single day.
However, your run-of-the mill, large rawhide chew can be
consumed by Lily in 45-60 minutes.
Expensive, too much rawhide in her stomach, IMO, and she wants one every day.
I have tried a number of things, gone to smaller ones, since she's going to eat them anyway. Still, a bag of these a week!
So, I did some online research and found these guys, by Wholesome Hide, recommended because they are American made and one piece of rawhide, rolled tightly. A bit pricey, but if they last her awhile.......
She figured out very quickly that these were chews of a different sort, and now won't
chew them because she can't
consume them. She
asks for the others......nuzzling the abandoned, expensive one, on the floor, then looking at me with that quizzical, ears-perked look on her face.
"Not this one, the other one".
Then, as I would tell her to eat her dog food before I would give her the old kind of chew.....and she would.....she will go to her food bowl, eat a bit, come back to the abandoned chew, nuzzle it and give me "the look" again.
"I want the other one". Leaving the expensive one, abandoned, on the floor.
Booger dog.
As I could quickly tell these rawhides were going to be a better item for her, I found some more on Amazon at a good price and laid in a supply.
Ahem. I'm going to stand my ground.
