She's a bad speller :-)

This was a Christmas gift from my niece (whose Chocolate Lab named Floyd) has a bit of a crush on Daisy :-)

The New England Unit and the Cape Cod Unit of the WBCCI are doing a Pets & Paws rally in April and Daisy can't wait to wear this there!!

:-)

PS - I don't correct her much on the silver/sliver trailer since there's no way she's gonna get "aluminum" right! :-)

We have a mountain goat, pika, prairie dog, and sasquatch that travel with us, but they are all stuffed toys.
We frequently travel with a parrot.
The dogs think we should leave her home so there would be more room in the back seat.

The parrot actually seems to enjoy travel. We do have to cover her cage on the window side because trucks seem to startle her.
Things are about to get interesting as we just "inherited" a dog.

Attica may not be a pure-bred but in the sense of the need to expend energy she is all Border Collie - and the house really likes it if she gets drained of that energy on a very regular basis - so - at least every other day she gets to do just that ....

Her regular "run" takes us to a small closed network of mainly empty roads just out of town - she sets the pace in front of the truck and at every intersection waits for me to choose the direction - the typical run is about 7 1/2 kilometres.

During the ice free season she swims in pretty much every puddle, ditch, pond or lake. During the winter she likes to roll in the snow (a lot).

I know I am prejudiced but there really is an incredible flowing grace in the tireless lope of a Border Collie that you know would last every day all day if you let it.

Here are a few shots from a couple of her winter runs.

What a nice dog.

Can she herd cats?

Hi, and I had a neighbor that said I was cruel for taking my Rough Collie and Black Lab Mix four times around the block, on my bicycle. They ran so fast that I had to let go of their leashes and still couldn't keep up.

Ken,

In all the years she has been in the family I have never seen her chase a cat - but she sure works at keeping the squirrels and chipmunks in line - I think she finds it a bit frustrating that she can't climb trees - but she is working on that ....

Bob,

I think like most dogs she lives for her runs - and to make sure I don't forget that little fact she has an unnerving habit of simply sitting quietly and patiently in front of me - stares straight into my eyes - ears up - no blinking - no movement - no sound - if I don't respond quickly enough she'll just lean forward a bit ..... drives me nuts. Never hard to figure out exactly what she wants ..... and she gets it.

Thanks,

Jay

If you can find a rerun, this is a fun episode of Mythbusters. In the herding cats segment, they try to get a trained border collie to herd cats in the same manner as he would sheep. You can tell the poor border collie is dismayed at the cats' responses.

"Episode 215 – Mythssion Impossible
  • Original air date: February 15, 2014
Herding Cats

Myth Status: Confirmed
Notes: It is impossible to herd cats.
Adam and Jamie visited a livestock farm to learn about the basics of animal herding. They were each able to guide a flock of six sheep along a course laid out in one of the pens, but noted that sheep's natural instincts cause them to move in groups, while cats do not possess such a herding tendency. At an indoor facility, they set up a small enclosure (the “Cat Corral”) and tried to move 8 cats into it, but neither man could get them to move as a group. Adam resorted to carrying them one by one, only to have a cat escape as he brought the last one in; Jamie worked by intimidating them, but could only move 5 into the Cat Corral. Further attempts, using only 3 cats and a combination of toys, catnip, and startling noises/movements, also failed. A final test, with all 8 cats and a sheepdog, failed when the cats became aggressive and refused to move away from the dog's advance."

I LOVE this picture! Daisy seems to be one contented doggie, even if she's not camping right now.
