Traveling with dogs?

Has anyone found a website that lists if an RV park has a dog run? Going East to West on the 80 on a relocation trip and would love to be able to run the pups at the end of the day. Any help?

You can usually find info on RV park's dog facilities in the Woodall's and Good Sam books. They will also usually tell if there are any breeds of dogs they will not accept.

Well, when the AS moves, the dog is along.. gotta figure it out... a call ahead usually finds help... or you will learn you don't want your dog "doing" anything there..

With some exceptions, dog runs in RV parks are small and aren't very appealing, in my opinion. Better to find an RV park that backs up to public land or a big vacant lot, where the dog can really run and chase balls, etc. Some places have public beaches near the RV park where you'll see other dogs running, meaning if there are rules against loose dogs, they aren't enforced. There's so much public land in the west that any RV park in the mountains is only a short distance away from public land where nobody is going to bother you. Be careful, though, dogs are tightly controlled and sometimes forbidden in national or state parks, but much less so in national forests, BLM land, and wilderness areas.

When we did our 4 months south this last winter, we were faced with the same situation with 3 dogs. So in Oregon we spent most of it in state parks which allowed a lot of freedom. Most parks that advertised a dog run really only had a small pen area for the tiny dogs with the exception of Flag RV in California which had what must have been at least a 3 acre fenced area in the middle of a well laid out RV park to play with your dogs.
The best one we found was in south east California near Oasis/Thermal which basically allowed off leash in the park as long as they were controlled and also had a very large pond area for the water loving dogs. The rule was that the dogs could go wherever people could.

As a last resort I carry 50' of rope, tie it on and let her go. She is tied to me and on her collar. She knows it and runs til she drops and has a great time. Does not care whether actually free of not. Run her up and down the campground road if I have to that way.

The ones I have seen aren't much more than a fenced area no bigger than a camp site at a KOA. Personally I've kept my dogs out of such small contained areas due to my fear of them catching something from the visiting crowd.

I think it is James Island County park near Charleston, SC, that has a beautiful dog park, complete with ponds they can play in.

I can't get Lily to leave my side to play with other dogs, tho, other than ones she has known for a long time.

She doesn't want me getting too far, nor other dogs too near.

There is an app for that! It is called DogParks. It works just like the Allstars app for locating all camping locations. We travel with two German Shepherd dogs and find this tool helpful.
Dogs love you no matter what!

50' of rope is a good idea, I may pick some of that up.

Have had a 30' horse lead, which can be tied to the rear hitch when there is a large area behind and around a site.

We have been on several long trips with our dogs. The space available to them varies greatly from place to place. We try to find some green space every couple of days to let them stretch their legs. It can be a designated dog area, park, field, or swimming area, depending on what we find tooling around the town we are staying in and not always in the RV park.

There's an app for finding camping sites? And dog parks? For iPad? We are newbies. Neophytes. Our only haul was from the dealer to home yesterday. Actually, plan cross country trip mid-June. Traded in both cars, bought new but '14 truck. Great truck made to haul, complete with back-up camera and tow gear, but no GPS. Anyone know of GPS like app. Thanks for your help.

We use the AllStays app or Campendium website to find campgrounds and read the reviews when we're traveling. Both are great!
