Traveling With Kittis

Hi, our 25' Land Yacht went away this year in favor of a new CCD 28' . First thing we did was to get new leatherette covers made for all the upolstry, even the dinette table. Our seven kitties have traveled a lot with us and the new AS means we can enjoy them even more. We keep a potty box in the Ford Excursion. Anyone havre any suggestions on a better way to deal with multable pets. They are used to traveling the 600 miles between our home near Seattle and our Whitefish Montana home.

We travel with two cats; one that loves to travel and one who hates to travel but likes the trailer when it is sitting still.

While on the road, the cats ride in the trailer unless the temperature is over about 95. The small, young cat rides between the front curtains and the window and watches the world go by. The big, old cat rides behind the bed where he can wedge himself in.

We keep a litter box in the walk-through bathroom isle where it is out of the way. We do have to move it about 6" to use the shower. In our old 25', the litter box was in the shower since that was the only practical location.

I carry cat food and litter in one-gallon plastic jugs that originally held almonds. One jug full of litter is perfect for refilling the litter box when it gets low. When the litter box was in the shower, I used wheat-based litter so that the inevitable spillage wouldn't clog up the trap or tank. In the current box, I use plain old clumping litter.

We find that the cats are no bother and we love the company when away from home. Our little cat walks on a leash and joins us at happy hour at every rally. She has 3 blue ribbons from pet shows at rallies, including a first place at the International.

Our old cat was declawed when we got him. The young cat wears "Softpaws" on her claws so that she does not menace the upholstry.
