Our dear old dog, Thunder, went to heaven yesterday. Our hearts are literally broken in two and the house is empty without hearing the clicking of his nails on the wood floor.
We were so blessed to have a dog like him for a little over 15 years. He sure loved his people and would always want to be by my side. His old body got real tired and things started giving out on him.
He went peacefully and the Vet is keeping him until some of the snow melts this week so we can bring him home and bury him on his hillside that he loved so much.
It's such a shame that our beloved pets can't live as long as we do. The love from Thunder was unconditional.

Steve - Jan and my hearts go out to you. We recently suffered the loss of a loving pet and it has been tough around our house as well. The memories of Thunder will last you a lifetime.
Oh Steve...I'm so sorry to hear of your losing Thunder. It's always difficult when we lose our furry-kids, especially for those of us without "real" kids - they certainly hold a special place in our families. He will be missed, but hold onto the years of memories and wet kisses - nobody can take those from you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. They are with us for such a short time, but at least Thunders memory will be with you for ever.

I cry every time I read a post like this. I'm so sorry for what you're going through and can certainly sympathize. One of the toughest things in life is losing a pet. Each pet is irreplaceable. I pray your wounded hearts heal quickly.

I am sorry to hear that you lost your precious Thunder. I had a cocker for just under 15 years and had to put him down because of kidney failure so I can relate. Just keep the memories in your heart and he will always be with you. My Max went to "dog heaven" just over four years ago and I was thinking of him just this morning.

My condolences on the loss of your friend. It's always hard when they leave us. We have trees planted over our friends in our yard:
Fluff (cat)has a cathedral elm
Lexi (Lab) has a northern pin oak
Nikko (eskimo) has a colorado blue spruce
Shadow(cat) has a long needled pine tree
Callie (cat) has a weeping crab apple tree (she only really liked me)
Wish we'd started this sooner, because we're missing some now. The trees comfort me whenever I'm outside. They were chosen specifically for certain attributes of our friends.
The best way we can honor them is to replace them from an animal shelter, and never forget them. They'll be waiting for us someday.
So sorry for your loss of Thunder. Its so difficult to lose a family member. Our hearts and prayers go out to your family. Hope The Rainbow Bridge brings you alittle comfort...
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Thunder. The present pain of parting will eventually give way to the stronger memory of 15 years of mutual love and shared happiness. But have a good cry today to help wash away some of the hurt. Then take a long walk in our warm Colorado sunshine.
