Temporary pet
My wife just yelled at me to come to the back window of our den. My camera was close, so I got the first shot through the window. We then grabbed the cat and I took a half-dozen closeups before the fawn spooked and ran into the neaby thicket.

Here she is!
Actually, we spotted this one right outside our door at the Escapee park in Sutherlin, OR last year.

Five more temporary pets
Barn swallows nesting in our breezeway. This is the 3rd time since we moved here 7 1/2 years ago. There are 5 babaies in that nest and the parents are exhausting themselves trying to keep them fed. They make a terrible mess, but they are welcome.

The cat weighs about 20 pounds. He is 16 years old, though, and no threat to much of anything. He lays on the back porch with birds hopping all over the lawn; he ignores them and they aren't afraid of him. When he was younger, his favorite prey was lizards. We always had a bunch of lizards around minus their tails.

Feeding time
Parent never paused long enough to get a sharp photo of her/him. I had the camera set to take 5 quick shots in sequence, and this was the sharpest of the bunch. Taken from about 10 feet with 7x optical zoom, no flash and it is a dark day. One or the other parent brings them food about every 3 minutes.

wild birds
I just love it when new birds come to visit. This one came to visit us several times last month and was finally scared off by our indoor pet, Chessie, a Maine Coon cat. The turkey wasn't afraid to come right up to the sliding glass doors, then the cat would charge against the window and the turkey would spread her wings and take flight for about 10-20 feet. She sometimes stayed around for an hour or more before walking back into the woods.
Lately we've had a wood thrush singing to us at dusk from a tree near the house. I've never heard such a pretty tune and it sings so loud and clear through the evening air.
