Everybody says don't second guess, but we all do it. But you did the best you could. It's impossible to ever know absolutely whether we make the right decisions, so have confidence you did your best under great stress. I'll never forget the times I've had to take a cat or dog to the vet to end suffering, but with time the pain subsides, the good memories remain, and we go on.

That horrible feeling is because you're taking the brunt of it so that she didn't have to suffer. I knew when we let Alki go that it was the right time, but it was still so hard. I'll cry about it just driving by the vets office, and it's been six months! A friend made me a little photo album of pictures of Alki, and I keep it on my desk and look at it whenever I feel sad, and remember all the great times we had together.

Keep Kimmi in your heart, and know you did what was best for her, even if it was the hardest thing for you.

I hate making "The Decision". It is a struggle for us to take such a step even when we know it is the correct thing. It sounds like you made the right call...Not the easy one. but the best one for Kimmi.

Hang in there Laura. We're here and we care,

I'm so sorry about Kimmi. It takes a special person to care for a pet, and to make the difficult decisions that need to be made. I hope you can take some comfort from the words written by everyone here, and eventually come to realize that you gave her the gift of a loving home for many years, and peace when she needed it most.

Thank you all --- your words of comfort and insight definately resonate and I am grateful. I have spent the last two nights at my father's house - am too scared to return home. Tomorrow I will return, in the morning and try to figure out how best to move forward. I never imagined such pain and truly thought that acting early, rather than late, would somehow provide me more comfort. Not. But, as mentioned in many messages here, it provided Kimmi the comfort. And for that, I will be grateful. Good night friends - thank you.
