I use RVPetSafety. Cost is around $200 and monitoring is $15 /month or less depending on the plan you pick. Simple plug in installation. It alerts for high or low temp and battery. You can also check where your unit is located. It is cell based, so you need to be in an area with cell service.

Yes, it has worked out very well. The things that we like most are that the SensorPush is multi-purpose, and there is no monthly fee involved. We have three sensors, one of which is fixed (interior temp in the trailer) and the others move around as needed. We use them to keep track of refrigerator temps, outdoor temps (late in the year's travels when we're watching for freezing), piano humidity levels (at home, not in the Airstream!), etc.

For all the discussion of running the gateway off of battery, we found that we rarely need to. Those times that it's hot enough that we're worried about pet safety it's also hot enough that we're probably on shore power for AC, and can just plug the gateway in. When we have been boondocking and wanted to track the temps the battery method does work fine, though.

I went with the Nimble from RV Pet Safety and DO NOT recommend it. After about a year, it has no battery life so must always be plugged in. It was marketed as using Verizon but I just found out (when trying to get a repair) that mine is actually on ATT. They offered to let me spend 60$ to see if they could get it working. Going to try Sensor Push again. Ugh! I've wasted 11 months of my 2-year subscription not to mention a $200 device.

We put a human in charge on scene if it’s too hot in the Airstream or tow vehicle for pets without air conditioning.

IMHO pets are family, just like little kids, and need to be properly supervised in person at all times when it’s hot outside.

Our first PWD made us get our first AS in 1988.

We have been Streaming with our dogs ever since.
We show, we water trial, we camp, fish and travel, we have never left a dog in a hot vehicle or trailer unattended.
They also stay in a crate in the Burb, never loose.

Yup. Crate, obedience, and leash training will help prevent a lot of heartbreak or injuries in case a doggie gets loose.

I use a "TempStick" with a hotspot. It is *NOT* reliable with an iPad or cell phone hotspot, because their connections go to sleep when not in use and the tempStick will then fail when it polls. It's not a continuous connection (it's a battery-powered device) but it works with a dedicated hotspot that keeps the connection open until you turn off the hotspot.

Just FYI as this thread is two years old. But Nimble/RV Pet Safety, now has a Verizon 4G LTE model of their temp sensor. Ours is the original and still works and is on it's 3rd year, we did have some issues with service last year at the campground in the Wisconsin Dell, but it has worked everywhere else. They have also just updated the Iphone app, and it is much easier to use and understand now. It just give us that extra feeling of comfort knowing the dogs are okay while we are away from the Airstream.

I tried an app once that monitored a room in my house while away, taking snapshots every few seconds or minutes, and were sent to my cell phone, through a vpn or some such thing. The point is, wouldn't it be better to leave that running on a mobile device , in the trailer, on a hot spot,with a regular old thermometer in view, that way you could see the dogs and the old-time glass tube thermometer..plus++ you can talk through the app to your dog.

The app was free, and I used my already old decommissioned I-phone to run the app.



Again, disclaimer......would rather have analog anything over digital.

Assuming you have some form of internet connection available in your RV, I've found a reliable remote temperature monitoring solution. I purchased two SensorPush wireless Thermometer/Hygrometer sensors and the SensorPush G1 WiFi Gateway on Amazon.com. One sensor monitors the interior temp of the trailer and the other is in the refrigerator. The sensors use Bluetooth to connect to the gateway. The Gateway uses WiFi to connect to your internet connection whatever that is. SensorPush has an app for IOS and Android for remote monitoring. While away from the Airstream I can verify the interior is cool and the beer is still cold. In the event either sensor detects temps outside a range I set, I get an email alert. There is no charge for this service. The sensors run on battery and the gateway only needs 5 volts. It comes with 120 volt convertor or use the supplied usb cable and connect it to the 12 volt system using an adapter. Power goes out in your rig, the gateway still has power. Excellent system for $200.00.

Just saw a recommendation of a system called MarCell.
You set the parameters you want, and if it senses a loss of power or something outside the set parameters, it sends a text message, no wi-fi connection needed.
About $200 and $100 a year for the service. (although the service can be turned off if you're not traveling.)

One of our Fantastic fans is thermostat controlled. We set the temperature for it to come on if a/c fails. It vents the hot air out.

Hey, sorry for reviving an old thread. I am looking to purchase a temperature sensor for my trailer but I still can't decide which one is best. I thought I would get some opinions from you guys since you have used them for a while now. I have been leaning towards the Temp Stick after reading this review: https://www.weatherstationadvisor.co...-stick-review/

However, the MarCELL https://www.meetmarcell.com/also looks like a reliable option but after paying the monthly subscription fees the cost will probably add up fast. Can anyone recommend one over the other?

I am in the market for a system. Are you still happy with the SensorPush technology? I had read on other sites it was not reliable for use with RVs, but your review made me revisit it. I appreciate your updated opinion.

Yes, we still use it as it's been reliable and we use the SensorPush for other things as well. I'm sure that there are more recent solutions that would work fine (like using a Blink camera with temp sensor), but as they say DFIIIAB.

Just another option...

Micro-Air makes a wifi-enabled thermostat. If you have Airstream Connect or a hotspot running, the thermostat will transmit the ambient temp and allow full control over the AC unit. There's a free app for managing remotely. Thermostat is $250.

We use Waggle to monitor night temp, low temp and power loss. Works over the VZ Network. Thus far we have had no coverage issues as VZ network covers most of the country.
