It's been about a year, so I thought I'd update this... last time I posted (I haven't looked back to be sure, but I'm pretty confident), our beloved cat Snowball had just died. We didn't want the kitten we'd adopted a few months before to get used to being a single cat, so we quickly adopted her a brother, who we named Nibbler, after the character in Futurama. Nibbler spent the first few weeks hiding under our guest bed, but he eventually came out and is now the most loving, friendly, playful cat ever. He's never far away and is always ready for attention.

Here are Nibbler and Minnie enjoying the Outer Banks last August, in the Airstream. Minnie in front, Nibbler is at the window.

Lily loves to look out the front window, too, especially when we are traveling.

She rides in the passenger seat, these days, alternating between resting and looking intently at our surroundings......giving a bark if she sees horses, cows, other dogs, etc.

Also likes to glue her nose to the fresh air vents.

Chloe

Several months ago, I lost my wonderful 13 YO, leash-walking, traveling cat, Zoe, to liver cancer. I searched for a cat breed that would have similar characteristics and came up with the Pixie-bob breed as the best choice.

A month ago, I came home with a 6-week old Pixie-bob kitten. Pixie-bobs are bred to look like the west coast Lynx and may have a bit of Lynx blood. She will be big ... the mother was 17# and the father 25#.

First cat I have ever paid for. She had her first Airstream trip at 8 weeks and turns 10 weeks old tomorrow. She is already alpha cat at our house, the two Munchkin boys even let her steal their food and her favorite place is the top of the 7' cat tree.

She starts leash training as soon as she is big enough for a harness..

Pretty kitty.
We lost Aurora, our traveling kitty, to old age and cancer December 12, 2014.
We just adopted a new traveling kitty, Maggie. I haven't gotten the harness on her, yet.
I want to bring home Carter, too, a companion for Maggie, but he had a cough and runny nose so I left him at the Humane Society so they could continue to administer antibiotics. If he is better next week I will bring him home, too.

Loss of pets to cancer--a solution

I notice a lot of people who post on this thread have lost their beloved pets to illness--frequently to cancer. I am so very sorry for your losses.

I have a personal story--and a request--just a few click on your computer a day may solve this problem.

My friend, Dr. Annette Sysel had a Siamese kitty named Tiki--Tiki got cancer. Annette is a vet--she searched until she found a drug that would work on Tiki's cancer. The drug she found was invented by a university researcher, Dr. Joe Bauer. Tiki was given the drug and her cancer was stopped until the supply of the drug ran out. Dr. Joe Bauer--and Dr. Annette Sysel are trying to get this non-toxic drug to market.

Here is the link...please consider voting every day for Annette and for the vet tech of your choice. It costs nothing...and it may put an end to this terrible disease.

Many thanks!!!

Pet Cancer: The Bauer Research Foundation, a non-profit working to find new diagnostics and treatments for pets with cancer, would like to kindly ask for your help (and that of co-workers, friends, family if possible) for its veterinarian, Dr. Annette Sysel. She has been selected as 1 of 5 finalists for the 2015 American Humane Association Hero Veterinarian award. The 5 finalists were selected from over 700 nominees across the USA by a panel of celebrity judges. The Hero Veterinarian winner will be determined by public voting, which has now started and will continue through July 13 (we know, that's a long time). The award will be presented to the winner at the Hero Dog awards ceremony in Los Angeles in September. Dr. Sysel would love to win this award, not for herself, but for the opportunity to network with animal lovers like Betty White and other celebrities who have attended the award ceremony in the past. It may be one of the Foundation’s last promising opportunities to try to raise awareness for pet cancer research and potentially the funding they need to start pet clinical trials with their new non-toxic cancer drug (NO-Cbl). This drug has important possibilities for people with cancer as well.

Votes can be cast once every 24 hours by anyone over 18 years of age that is a resident of the US and that has a valid email address.

Dr. Bauer has set up a facebook page for voting, which you can find by typing the following into the address bar: www.facebook.com/VoteAnnette
There is an 'About' section on the left side of the facebook page with a link to the voting site. If you do facebook, please Like/Share this page.

Alternatively, you can go right to this link to vote:
http://www.herovetawards.org/

Voting Instructions:
1. Click on the link, then on the page click on the SUBMIT YOUR VOTE button.
2. Scroll down to Dr. Sysel’s name.
3. Hit the green VOTE button beneath the paragraph about her.
4. You also have to vote for one of five technicians listed in the Vet Tech category in the section below.
5. Under ‘Your Finalized Selections’, make sure that her name is shown, as well as the Vet Tech that you voted for.
6. At the bottom of the page, fill in your name, email address, zip code and check the box to verify that you’re over 18 years old.
7. Hit the SUBMIT button.
8. That's it –you should receive a green checkmark and the message ‘Thank you for your submission’! You can vote once daily (every 24 hours) between today and July 13.

It would be great if everyone could vote, once daily if possible, during the voting period. If you would like to receive a daily voting reminder, you can send an email to Dr. Sysel at asyseldvm@bauerresearch.org.

Thanks so much for any help and support that you can provide!

I wish I would have known about the drug before Aurora died. How expensive is the drug?

Unfortunately the drug is not currently available. Drs. Joe Bauer and Annette Sysel are trying to get it approved by the FDA...for people and for pets. If you vote on the website mentioned in my post, they may be able to get the funding they need to get this non-toxic drug to market. Thank you for your votes!

So very sorry about you Aurora.

Taken on our property, around 2005, when we lived in Washington State and Harley (my Golden/Lab cross) was a young lad:

Taken during his first few years. He loved picking apples off the apple tree.

Taken 3 years ago while on the road…somewhere in Indiana at an RV park next to this field

The day we left our property in Washington State to move to Arizona - June 2013.

Taken in Arizona a couple of years ago

Taken last year somewhere in Louisiana, spring 2014.

Taken last year.

Taken last year; we spend hours at a time gazing at this view off our back porch:

This dog is my constant companion and very best friend. He's 11 this year. I can't imagine ever having another one like this gem.
