He's a Lab mix, not sure a mix of what but a mix. He likes to ride!

My two just sleep in the trailer while I'm at work. When I get home, they're ready for a big walk and some fetching.

Same thing I do in Manhattan. He snoozes while I'm away. He's an old timer -- about as lazy as they come..

Our's has a room of his own in the kitchen.

This is how I'm greeted every evening.

As you can see he keeps very busy.

Funny story,
I took the trailer and the dog to work one day, I was going to a Unit Rally that night after work.
I was parked by the walking trail and at lunch I went out to let the dog take a walk. While I was letting him out a couple of co-workers stopped by to chastise me about leaving my dog in the trailer all day. They said "How can you do that to him?"

My response, " He sleeps on the couch all day at home he can sleep on the couch all day in the trailer"

He was happy to sleep on the couch regardless of what couch it was!

Home alone

We live next door to a dog that barks or howls forlornly the ENTIRE time her owner is away. The dog's owner never hears it--of course not because he is not home. The dog is so happy to have him come home and she stops the howling......It is not fun for either the dog or us while he is away.

Dogs are herd or pack animals and are happiest when they are with their pack even if it is only the owner and the dog....perhaps it is different if you have more than one dog......I know our lab/short hair mix got increasingly nervous about being left alone as she aged... .pj

Suite,

Your post is what I was getting at. I can't count the times I've been stuck next to a rig that has a day-long barker inside. And the owners are oblivious..."my dog doesn't bark"...

Pat,
This is exactly the reason we passed on adopting an adorable chocolate lab puppy this past summer....we are relatively new Airstreamers and we didn't want to be tied down, feeling that we should not leave a dog alone in the Airstream while we are out exploring. We didn't think it would be fair to the dog.....not sorry about the decision even though we miss having a dog for a companion some of the time. pj

If it's a private park, I guess they can refuse, or even refuse any animal.

I love to work mine off leash, and can't really get my head around leash laws either.

Belgian Malinois are so far off the radar, I tell people they're jackals.

Hello to you and your traveling pooch,

I hope you find friendly places that welcome your pal as you work across the country.

There seems to be a lot of breed discrimination nowadays thanks to some bad dog owners and the media. It's a real shame, especially when so many sweet dogs get the blame for others.

I recently returned from an outstanding conference (No More Homeless Pets) put on by Best Friends Animal Society (Kanab, Utah). They're the ones helping 22 of Michael Vick's pit bulls from his dog fighting ring. They've had the dogs since December, 2007. Wonderful results - the dogs are doing great and have proven that the breed is a good one. Even with all the horrible things done to them, these amazing animals have shown their sweet side. They're making a remarkable recovery.

Breed discrimination was a big topic at the conference.

You might want to check out their website: www.bestfriends.org You'll find lots of information on the situation. Wonderful dogs!

All the best to you along the way. Sounds like a great way to work and travel.

Happy Holidays,

Cappy

Thumbs up First post!!

Cappy....Welcome to the forums.

I think it's pretty cool that your first post has more to do with God's Critters than Stream'n.

Hope all check the link, Vicktory Dog's....... thank you.

Hello back to you,

Dogs (and all animals) are near and dear to my heart. Sharing our lives with these wonderful companions means a lot, especially on the road, whether it's finding pet friendly lodging or campgrounds. My three pals are great travelers.
Hope folks do check out the link about the Vicktory Dogs. Amazing.
I got to meet and visit with the team from their television show, Dogtown, on National Geographic. Such dedicated individuals.

Having an Airstream is new to me, but the passion has been a big part of dreaming for a long time. Can't wait to finally find one - for traveling and possibly living in for a bit of time when moving back out west.
Really enjoy this great website chockfull of wonderful information and inspiration.
Lots to learn.
For myself and a children's book I'm working on. What fun!
Thanks again for your welcome note.

Thumbs up

Cappy,
Good luck in your search, hope you find one soon that fits your needs.
The folks here are critter lovers for sure, seems every Stream has at least one.
We LOVE photos!!

Dogtown on NatGeo, were those the folks from up-state NY? Think I saw a documentary about them several years ago.

Hi there,

What a great snapshot of your pooch, Fado, in the boat. Quite the captain of the ship!
Love the black and white markings.
Dogtown on NatGeo is produced and filmed at Best Friends Animal Soceity - Kanab, Utah. What a wonderful place - some good campgrounds in the area. Well worth the trip. Had the best time volunteering there in October.

Just love the show and how they feature different dogs each week. I've learned so much about dog behavior from them. The show will back on the air with a new season sometime in the spring.

Regarding my Airstream (that sounds so right) - really enjoying all the research. Excited and a bit overwhelmed with everything one needs to learn about maintaining and operating one. Quite the adventure! Never a dull moment.

Mine are happy to sleep on the couch in the Airstream at home too! They go with me when I am doing anything in the Airstream and I sometimes have to wake them up to come back in the house. Sometimes I just let them sleep and come back later for them and still have to wake them up. They are just as comfortable in the trailer as in the house! Afterall, they think the trailer belongs to them just like the truck does!

Reminds me of the time I was working in Grasslands National Park (Saskatchewan, Canada). Middle of nowhere. I overheard some tourists talking about all the howling they heard the night before that had unnerved them somewhat (most likely coyotes). The local fellow told them to take care, them prairie dogs can be quite wild and vicious if you cross them...

I had to chuckle at the look on those poor folks' faces. They were going to go home full of stories of man-eating prairie dogs...
