For those of you that don't frequent our fulltiming thread, but do hang around in the pet forum, I thought I'd let y'all know we were adopted be a very sweet Spaniel/Daschund mix named Sophie. We pulled up in front of the people's house where she was staying, and she let us know in no uncertain terms she was ready to go home with us. She ran out, jumped in the truck, sat down on the seat, and sat staring at us, waiting for us to decide to take her home with us.
We managed to coax her back out of the truck, where her foster parents showeed us her talents, including, fetch, sit, shake, come, stay, etc.
When we got home, the first thing we did after getting her out of the truck (she seems to have a thing for trucks), was to run over to Cookie's grave, sniff, and bark twice. Eerie stuff. Since then, she has charmed everyone at the RV park, as well as Marie's work. Marie brought her over to our friend's house for lunch Sunday, and he was also charmed. She jumped in his Range Rover, curled up on the back seat, and promptly went to sleep.
Shehas gone to work with Marie the last two days, and the residents of the Alzheimers facility there have all fallen in love with Sophie, even the ones that hate dogs. Tomorrow Sophie will have to stay home for the day, I hope she has enough self control not to have any accidents inside. So far, the only time she does, is when she is very excited, like when one of us comes home.

I have been following your story because we have a 74 Soveriegn also but now it will be even more interesting because I also have a dog named Sophie. Although she is a black lab/gordan setter mix. My other dog Jasmine used to greet us in the same way. We would let her run out the door to say hello so the puddle would be outside!!
Sophie has a new career. She is a "therapy dog". My residents and staff love her, and since Monday, many of the family members have met her and have fallen for those big brown eyes. the residents gave her a brown stuffed rabbit and she loves to toss it around the common room and entertain them. Unfortunately it was not thiers to give, and when I told the owners family what happened, they insited Sophie keep it and refused to allow me to replace it.
One lady fed sophie her donut and said "I can to" when I reminded her that Sophie was not to be fed people food. The rest of the residents thought it was funny.
All in all the Sophie experiment at work has been good. Residents who would not participate in activities and was not eating well, have suddenly started to improve. Geeeee, I wonder why.
Have a great day
Marie

Sophie's adorable, and it sounds like she charms everyone she meets. What a world of good she's doing for the folks at the home! Glad to hear she's enjoying her new home and career.

What a great story. It's amazing how dogs can make people feel better just being themselves. They have an amazing effect on people Glad Sophie is fitting in so well so quickly. She sounds like a real charmer!
In honor of Alki and her battle with cancer we will be participating in the 2008 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Please click here if you would like to see her page and donate to the cause: Donate
Marie took Sophie to the groomer today for a wash and wax, and a quick vacuum...
She was the hit of the "Dog Washateria", with everyone hinting (not too subtly) she could stay a while...
Here's a photo of her,after being "detailed":

Congratulations and good going. I know Cookie is looking down at you saying "go for it, mom and dad, she needs you". I always think that when one of mine leaves and another shows up, I'm just passing the love along. I lost my most favorite "Champion Juel Destiny's Show Off" in 1981, and I miss him still today; however, I know he lives on in even the little Pomerainan, Imma, who rules my house now. Show Off was a beautiful big black Standard Poodle, very stylish and very protective of me. Imma is a little nasty Pom. But they are really the same to me. They give me love and they give me pleasure.

Tomorrow will make the 3 week mark for Sophie being with us. Some things I have noticed about having a new canine family member, in no particular order:
Sophie is very popular. We get knocks on the door, from people wanting to know if Sophie can come out and play...
She is very well-mannered, and much calmer than Cookie. The residents at the facility where she works all go ga-ga over her. She is on-the-go all day, and when she gets home, she usually jumps up on the couch, puts her head in my lap, and passes out. Which brings me to:
She snores. Loud. She is currently asleep in her bed on the couch (spoiled? Naw!), and she sounds like an idling tank...
I have started walking more in the evening, so Sophie can go potty at the local doggie bathroom. More exercise is good.
She loves to ride in the car, and in the truck. She is still kind of insecure, and doesn't like being left alone. I've started leaving a radio on to keep her company. Most dogs don't like radios, but she seems to be an exception.
She spends all day with Marie and the residents of the facility where she works, and is definitely Marie's dog (Marie is her human?), but I find her curled up in my bed every morning.
