Our New Camping Buddy

I just have to share our new camping buddy. We adopted Opal last Sunday from the Waukesha Shelter, she is an 8 year old Coon Hound mix. Opal will be traveling with us and will be a companion for our 14 year old Dalmation, Spot. Spot interviewed many dogs before he chose Opal. He's been king of the house for so long and he wanted just the right companion with whom to share the last few years of his life.

Congratulations, Chaplain and newly extended family! We adopted a Pound Hound ourselves nearly three years ago, 60 pounds of Chance, as mixed a breed as could be. Her coloring resembles a Doberman/shepherd/Rottweiler, but she is shaped more like a foxhound or giant beagle, and she has houndy spots on her chest. I don't know what is in her pedigree, but whatever it is, it hates the water; she goes around puddles and tiptoes over wet grass, with an "ewww, Mom!" expression on her face. She also gives a good howl when we encourage her by howling ourselves, an activity entered into enthusiastically and often by all of us. She came with us on our recent cross-country, and travelled very well in the MoHo. Best wishes to you and yours!

From the pound kennel to the luxury aluminum kennel. I bet there was a big celebratory Boooowwwwoool! (To sound like a true hound howl) Great looking happy dog.
