Our Dog Dingo... Cruciate Ligament torn

I'm having a very hard time reading this through the tears. We just lost one of ours to a devastating immune system disease. His ashes are back in his home, and he, among several others, are now forever buried in our hearts. Chewie was a good dog, and his brother and the rest of our pack miss him so much...

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have several buried in my heart as well and trust at some level, they're playing together and glad to make one another's acquaintance. As sad as it is, I know happy memories bring me great comfort and I wish and pray that for you.

It is really hard, Our Golden was at my side for 10 years. She just passed, on Jan 2nd at 10:30 am. My wife said this is the first time we really been alone, she filled up the space between us. She talked to us you know, when she wanted to go out, when she was hungry, when she wanted to play. We were for the last 8 months, taking her back and forth to the vet, treating her for ACL. He kept saying she is getting better. Soooo we bought her a brace for her leg, made especially for her. We thought that helped her get around. We thought she was better, she even had a ball helping us rake the leaves up this past fall, we would rake up a pile and she would run through it, teasing us. But lurking inside of her were tumors on her hip, tail bone, her heart. Doc said it would take a miracle, and I am out of them. We sent the x rays to a specialist to examine, to make sure our vet was reading them correctly, as it turned out it was worse then we could have imagined. Doc said, take your time you make your decision when it is time for her and you. She is a big dog, it was very hard for me to lift her to get around, She was not getting up all day, i had to lift her to change her positions. As the days went on she got worse and worse and we, for her, had to put her down. They sort of leave a big hole in your heart. Our little camper was for her, b/c we could not leave her at all when we wanted to get away for a time, we can take her with us, "perfect" . And I am so sorry for everyone's lose. Carl

OK... this is my final post on the thread, until my eyes dry out and my vision clears...

I feel for everyone who has lost their furry family member. It makes me think about our previous Blue Heelers we camped with, swam with, traveled with and nursed back to health. It is a connection that few people will ever become to anyone or any thing.

We lost two Blue Heelers over the last 23 years. Both we took to the vet and sat on the floor while they took their last breath. Your heart is broken. You remember all of the good days from pup to a senior aged family member. We would carry our beloved family member out the front exit crying without embarrassment. It was losing a great friend.

One is buried at a special place in our back yard on the edge of the Rocky Mountain Front Range in Colorado. Wrapped in her favorite 'binky' and the bone she would test her teeth.

Seven years ago we lost our second Blue Heeler. Again, under a covering of petrified wood and agates we collected over the years together. Wrapped in the 'binky' and chew bone that always traveled with us. Dingo... is the brother of 'old' Blue. He missed his brother.

This is where seven years ago we found Blue, a female, who runs the roost. When it is Dingo's time, we have the place already spotted at our winter home in Boulder City, Nevada. We are so thrilled that it was not needed with Dingo's severe injury and slow but dramatic recovery. When it is Dingo's time, no matter where... he will be buried where we all enjoyed to camp, or at home. Blue will miss Dingo, as we will... but that special Blue Heeler pup with those bright eyes will... be getting a good home and missing Dingo's company.

Never have our Heelers turned on us or considered us anything but strange dogs. Our camping trips will be hollow without our true friends... our dogs. They love you for who you are.
