We are still mourning Quinn, and it's been almost 8 years. Understand. We have other rescues now, all good doggies in their own way, but you never forget any of them.

Like I said before, it's hard to tell who rescued who...

Also, as I saw in a sign in our Vet's office, "If dogs could talk, they would tell us how much they love us..."

Kota will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge....

There are many other pets who travel and like to camp. I live in SF and dogs are difficult to own here IMO.
I have birds and they love to travel / camp.

It is hard to lose a good friend, dogs as a rule are better than people, no doubt.

Condolences.

So sorry for your loss. How lucky Kota was to have you, who obviously cared so deeply. I said goodbye to my greyhound girl a few months ago, under similar circumstances of unexpectedness. It's an open wound that I know will take a lot of time to heal. Good luck to you and I hope that your memories will give you more smiles than tears in the near future.

Last Post for Kota

It's been a month now and we are starting to look. The house seems empty. Especially for Ann while I'm on the road.

Ann found a beautiful English golden online. We got all the info and we're ready to visit the breeder to meet the parents, see the kennel, and pick up Remington. I got suspicious when they changed the pick up location to a McDonald's parking lot for "security concerns".

An Internet search of Purebread Breeders revieled mountains of complaints and law suits. Huge puppy mill operation. We contacted the kennel in MO from the pedigree. They were devastated that one of their puppies was being enslaved in a puppy mill. Especially one with a horrible reputation and law suits against it. They had no permission to breed the dog.

These people put up an elaborate front making you believe that the puppy was raised by a loving family like the one they lifted the photos from.

We are going to stop by and visit http://bestinshowgoldens.com/index.html on our next trip to Colorado. Maybe get on their list. They seem like very genuine people.

I posted this to make people aware of these crooks out of respect for all of the great dogs like Dakota.

I hope there is a special place in hell for internet scammers. Wish I could send them there early!

Have you considered adopting from a rescue organization? I know it's not for everyone, but it's worked well for my daughter and her family.

Puppy mill operators, internet or not, should be sent to that "special place" you mention.

We have in the past and didn't have a good experiences. Expensive health issues and behavioral problems. Not saying that there are not great companions out there for adoption.

I am way late for condolences but I am very sorry for your loss and hope you find a new pup soon. Nothing will replace Kota but it is very lonely without the dogs in our lives. Our golden Scooby succumbed to cancer a few years ago at 10 years old. It came on very fast and we tried treatments and they seemed to work for a few days but then all of a sudden did not. It was very hard for me to let him go and we will always remember him.

Good luck with your search and again - sorry for your loss!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the puppy mill. I can relate to your missing Kota, and wanting to fill the void.

Have you considered volunteering at a local animal shelter or similar place?

Friends have done so, after a loss, and found that the work filled the void nicely, and gave them a needed dog fix! [without the longer-term commitment of adopting a new companion for the rest of your lives . . . ]

Patience is often the hardest part of the grieving process . . . I have found . . .

Hang in there!

There will never be another Dakota and we will always miss him and cherish the great times we had with him. Mishka will have some huge paw prints to fill. He traveled great on the trip to his new home.
