We lost Lucy, our beloved 18 year old Chocolate Lab rescue, 5 months ago. We recently adopted Bodie, a 1.5 YO yellow Lab rescue. We realize that Lucy will never be replaced, but Bodie is becoming part of our family and i know that Lucy is waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge. We feel your pain.

P.S. Keep the name

Sorry to hear that...the toughest part of pet ownership.

My best friend just lost his golden to cancer. They have just gotten a new youngster Diva and she is a handful.

We lost one of our two dogs in October of 2013, then another in November of 2014, and I swore I would not get another dog. I couldn't take the grief again.

Well here we are with another dog. everyone one of our pets have been a part of our life and left us with unforgettable memories.

We understand your loss, and think about adoption when the time is right.

Dakota -- Condolences

Dave and Ann, don't know you or your golden, but we lost Maggie, our second golden at 9 years old Thanksgiving 2014, under circumstances very similar to yours, about 3-4 days between onset of serious symptoms and determination nothing could be done. I was real worried about my wife' s emotional state when the dog became ill, but I was the one weeping on the floor next to her at the vets' office when she passed. Hope you will accept our, and everyone's expressions of sympathy. More difficult during the holidays.

FWIW, after insisting I was going to wait 6 months and get a golden puppy, we gave in to impulse and visited a doggie adoption event mid-December last year, where we found Star, a chocolate lab/pointer mix. She was the only large dog standing quietly watching the yapping and squirming terriers and mixes all around her. I knelt down to pet her, and she put her (very large) paw on my knee as if to claim me. She came home to us Christmas Eve and a year later it still feels like Christmas.

Others have said it, but the experience taught us, adoption is the way to go, and life without a dog ain't the same.

The outpouring of compassion, sympathy, and love for dogs on this thread is beyond a doubt the most human and inspiring thread I have seen on the AS Forum since becoming an owner 11 months ago.

Our license frame reads "Sparky's Westie House" and our user name apparently expresses thoughts similar to kota's.

It took us 2 years to grieve the loss of our first Westie before were ready for another. The posts above about our hearts becoming canine ring true for me. A major reason for getting an AS was so Sparky could travel with us.

My deepest condolences to kota.

Last Post for Kota

Thanks for all the wonderful support! I will keep Dakota's user id "Kota" as it will remind us of the good times.

We will get another golden in a few months.

It amazes me when one of the first things people ask about the camper you are selling is if any dogs have ever been in it. Is there any other was to camp?

I lost companions in the past to old age. It's always very difficult. Kota was going to be 9 in January. He's was healthy and active with a clean bill of health until a couple weeks ago. Vet visits didn't reveal the problem. It wouldn't have effected the outcome.

This unexpected loss really caught us off guard. We are getting through it with all of the support our friends and family on and off line are giving.

We lost our 7 year old min pin to cancer last Christmas time. We were reluctant to look for another (rescue) right away.....but before thae week was over we 'found' another rescue......what a joy she is. We wish we could enjoy both of them now.

The easiest hello, and the hardest good-bye.

Can't say anything else because I am going through the same thing. People mean well, but the crying and unbearable grief doesn't stop.
