Our labradoodle is a great traveler other than never sleeping while we are underway. Of course, this means he sleeps well at night. I don't think there are any breed specific issues or concerns. Traveling with any dog does put limitations on what you can do from sightseeing, shopping or dining out in hot weather to where you can go in state and national parks.

Thanks for sharing! I just brought Max home today. He'll spend his first night at the Airstream this weekend. Wish me luck!

Do Goldendoodles count? We are brand new to Airstreaming and only just picked up our "baby" a week ago. Have not had a chance to go camping yet, (other than the two nights to get back home...but our Doodle was not with us) but when we do...our Goldendoodle, Monte will be going with us. Looking forward to seeing how he does. All I know is that I can hardly get him out of the Airstream in our driveway. I feel that is a good sign!

Our grandsons, Maclin and Jack, just got them a Goldendoodle puppy. His name is Draper. He is a clumsy four month old who plays hard with the boys and passes out on the kitchen floor. It was a feat to get them all to stop long enough to pose for this picture.

How about an Aussiedoodle? Oliver/Ollie is an amazing travel companion....and so good in the truck while driving hours down the road.

I just took Max to the vet for his first car ride. He rode shotgun. Yes, I understand the risks. But he was miserable inside the crate so I tied the harness to the front seat. He was much, much happier.

We head on to the Airstream this evening. There is debate as to where he will sleep. I vote next to me on the floor next to the bed. The wife is not thrilled.

Great Danes here, but some travel tips are universal for our four legged buddies.

First off, I suggest asking your vet for help in assembling a canine first aid kit. Our years of travel have seen a number of accidents or issues that needed to be dealt with promptly. Cut paws, insect bites, upset stomach, belly rash, twisted ankles, etc. We carry a fair size tote with a full set of bandages, splints, wraps, drugs, wound cleaners, ointments, antibacterials, flea/tick treatments, etc. I also note where the nearby vet office is located when we know we will be exploring/hiking beyond the campground boundaries.

Second, we have a folder with a complete set of medical records/licenses for each dog for various parks or border crossings.

Whenever I open the trailer door to start the loading process both our Danes take up guard duty at the truck to ensure they aren't left behind. If I open the tailgate to add supplies, one or the other will immediately jump inside for the duration.
