Is there a breed of dog suited to an Airstream?

I have traveled solo all over the country with my two Standard Poodles. The female is sweet but protective and the male is a love sponge. They both fought off a rabid Bobcat...the female (cream color) and the male (black) The female puts out a low growl when someone is approaching but stands down when reassured. They require basic obedience training before they are six months, but they "get it" with one eight-week class and they only get better after that.

Rhett and Oliver, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They have been traveling with us for four years! They are great dogs! They are friendly, quiet and love just being with us! The only complaint......they do shed......a lot! But we have a vacuum, so no problem!

We LOVE our two Bull terrier- pity mixes and just bought an airstream. Any tips on durability of the leather cushions and how to protect them from claws??
Any dog that loves to travel is perfect for an airstream!! Can’t wait to explore adventure with our two!

Best way to protect cushions from dogs is to train them to stay off the furniture, both in the trailer and at home. Consistency is key. Not everyone wants to do this of course, but if you set your mind to it, that goal isn’t difficult to achieve.

We cover the vulnerable cushions with inexpensive fleece throws. The dogs love the surface texture, and will push the blankets into 'nests' when its cold so they can snuggle. They think its a neat thing to push the blanket all over the cushions...keeping them off the furniture has not been a viable option.

Otherwise, they are a bunch of 'lap magnets'. You make a lap, and they are in it. If all 4 hit a lap at the same time, its a happy dogpile...especially if its a cool day.

They have a definite pecking order, and the senior (alpha) dog has first choice at any lap or napping spot...and for how long.

I am the boss of the F-250, and Lupe is the boss of the Airstream, except when Nancy decides she wants to be boss of the Airstream. Then, Lupe has to strategically retreat for a while until Nancy gets tired of being the boss of the Airstream, and Lupe can resume her rightful position. This means that, other things being equal, Lupe goes pretty much everywhere she wants to go, and if that involves sitting on a particular cushion of ultra leather to look out her favorite window, then that particular cushion gets covered with something to prevent claw marks. Other than that, she rewards us with undying love and affection, and will pop down into an instant sit or stay at the nod of either of our heads, not because we have trained her, but because we have allowed her to train us.

All breeds are perfect. They call them Man's Best Friend for a very good reason.
However, I think folks who prefer dogs who don't shed, won't track dirt into the AS, will never bark, leaves tiny piles of poop, and takes up very little room in the TV, should just get a cat. If you consider dogs to be an inconvenience....don't get one.

I love dogs that play fetch, will go on miles long hikes, loves to swim, can protect itself from coyotes, hawks, and other dogs, and would stand his ground at all cost protecting me, the Mrs., or most importantly, my daughter.
My pair of Goldens are shedding machines, go through a big bag of food in less than two weeks, and will overheat much sooner than other dogs. But they will play fetch all day, can catch a frisbee, won't bark unless they have a good reason, and they have a deep throated bark that isn't chronically annoying, and makes them sound even bigger than their 80 or so pounds. They are quite a beautiful breed, and despite their cuteness (and please don't take this the wrong way) I don't have to worry about being secure enough in my manhood when walking them. They can hike all day, and daddy will get tired way before they do. Their incredibly friendly nature in no way scares anyone, including children and the mailman.

We have a dog and two cats. They each present a set of problems, but they ALL make up for it with unconditional love. ALL of them are house trained, but that doesn’t mean the occasional accident doesn’t happen. Just one of the reasons we choose wood flooring. Reason #2? Sometimes the kitties throw up, but it’s happened to our dog once or twice. Again, no big deal. The kitties shed fur 4x as much as the dog. Chris just dusts and vacuums when he wakes in the morning. Dogs must be walked. Kitties have litter boxes. They both have stinky food. Outside of keeping them off of kitchen counters, and constantly reminding them that ma don’t wake to play or pet them in the middle of the night, Cats and Dogs are fairly equal in their demands on our lives, and just as equal in their love returned. Oh, and as far as an attack on bad guys, you really don’t want the cats to get you. They are FIERCE! Chibi especially, the Veterinarian won’t even open her carrier until she is completely sedated. She is a friendly kitty, until you **** with her and she decides you are not a trustworthy human, then, prepare for some serious kitty shredding! ������

Any breed will do. It all depends on training. A well behaved pet, you might talk to a few campers. A dog that doesn't listen, and is hard to catch like a greased pig.......you'll meet everyone Love how many people give rescues a second chance.............very humbling. No doubt these pets are spoiled rotten. Life would be boring without them. Rodents brings out the best in humans. The next one will be ugly............ to limit treat manipulation........ damit, I caved again...... Here you go precious

Our biggest problem with our rescues is training them to get off laps when humans need to get up. Ours usually (but not instantly) respond to “Let me up” especially around feeding time...
