I rescued a Human today...
I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, but not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened, and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved.
At least, I was able to save one.
I rescued a human today.
That dang Pollen in my eyes.

Thank you! I can't travel the corridors but will ask someone to help me when the time comes to for me to be rescued by another fur-baby. That's likely just months away!!

Shane, that was so touching. We have rescued two beagles, Casey and Bailey. Casey has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but Bailey continues to delight us many times each day. She is one special dog!

My Pup Zeus is my World. He's an 8 year old Boxer. I work from my home and he's always there for me. He is my Buddy. He needs me. I need him. I come home no matter where I am within 3 hours to check on him. Or feed him or let him out. His joints are already getting stiff and he is getting covered in Gray. He used to wake me up in the mornings,,now he sleeps in. .He used to sit by the shower waiting for me to get out..I could NEVER open the front door without him wanting to go out,,now he barley looks..I can see age catching him.....I'm seriously gonna have a nervous breakdown when I have to take him to be put down. I don't know what I'm going to do.
I will be devastated.
ONE of Gods greatest gift to man is the unconditional love a dog has for man. I see it and it touches me every moment of every day.

VERY DUSTY!!!! I know how you feel, Shane. One of my Pyrs is stuggling right with this heat. She is 12. The time is fast approaching that I will have to make a decision.
Thanks for the story and the video-both are awesome!

Awww, so sweet!
Our sweet Lily found Grandma Maggie in Louisiana last October, and has so enriched our ives. Quite the find, she was, and I think she feels the same.
Couldn't love her more.

Thanks Shane.
Tasha, a tri-color Pembroke Welsh Corgi rescued us at a time when we were losing our Pug Pau Hoa to cancer. They are so sensitive to human needs.

Thanks Shane,
Here's Ollie, the little border collie mix who rescued me a few years back. It took him about a year until he was no longer afraid of people. Don't know what happened to him before he found me, but I'm sure glad he did.

Well, I lost my old girl last Thursday. A combination of old age and this damnable heat conspired to make it necessary to send her to the Rainbow Bridge. She passed peacefully in my arms late Thursday afternoon. May you rest easy, Alexandra. I will miss you old girl and remember you fondly.

Dusty's story.
Hi, we have had four dogs, two at a time, and broken hearts when their time was up. We were not going to have any more pets. Dusty was given to my Mom for Christmas in 1997. Dusty, or Dusty-Boo was Grandma's dog until September 2005 when my Mom / Grandma passed away. Dusty became my Dad's dog. Dusty was getting pretty old and so was Grandpa. In Feburary 2011, Grandpa [3 months short of 98 passed away] And Now Dusty is my dog. [Mine and Lee Lee's] Dusty was only driven in a car for a few miles to get to the Vet. or the doggie parlour. Now Dusty / Dusty-Boo / and Boo-Boo, is what I call him now is on an Airstream trip of about 9,000 miles so far. Boo-Boo is/was one year older than any of our dogs lived. This has been one real experience for Bob, Lee, and Dusty. [Boo-Boo] Our story is in "On the road" and called "Bob and Lee's random trip"

Clancy Boy on left and Boudreaux on right. Clancy has been gone 3 years now but not a day goes by I don't think of his 13 years as my best friend and Boo's buddy. Boo is still holding out - still has that strut - just a little slower.
We were on our way to a rally with both in on the back seat - they didn't care where, they were just happy to be going.
Whew - the dust in this room - gotta go wash my face now.............. Miss you boy.

There's nothing like a good old dog, and nothing worse than loosing them.
Had a scare with my old girl as this weekend. Went to call her in, and she couldn't get up. Fortunetly she came through this time She is the first dog that I called mine/hers and at 13 (and 110 pounds), I know its going to be sooner than later...
