We have a 14 year old chocolate lab who was experiencing many of the same symptoms mentioned in this thread. The vet recommended Deramaxx 75 mg once a day. They must taste good, because he looks forward to his pill! We noticed a huge improvement immediately. He was having extreme difficulty getting up, didn't want to go for a walk, could no longer climb the stairs and was panting heavily. We know this is probably his last year with us, I say with tears steaming down my face, but we wanted him to be as comfortable as possible. Ask your Vet about it.
Bruce, I'm so sorry about your Alexandra. I'm glad you were with her at the end, and hope those good memories help ease the hurt. We lost two of our cats last year, and I miss them a lot, but I am so glad they were able to be a part of our family for 9 years.
Shane, thanks for this thread. Life really is better with fur babies.

So sorry you lost your pal. We have three rescued goldens...the most recent adoptee is 12. All great travelers. I will ALWAYS have a 4 legged friend. I loved reading all these posts.
Roxie found us almost a year ago on the internet. She was a puppy mill mom, she's just the best ever, and loves people, children and other pups. Never thought we'd take another after our 13 year old Pete passed, but she knew we were missing out on something ... great.

Thanks again, everyone for your comforting words, thoughts and prayers. Here is a picture of my sweetie. Her name is Alexandra, but we called her Missy A, Miss A or just Missy.

Sorry , Shane. Did not mean to hijack your thread with Alex's passing. But, in the theme, she was a rescue dog who made it clear that she had found her home-it just took me a little longer to realize it.

I know a lot of people say their rescue dogs are the best dogs ever, and it always puts me off a bit, because I think a carefully chosen pup that spends it's whole life with one family is actually the ideal situation. I have both - one of these dogs is a rescue, and one was purchased from a carefully selected breeder, from champion parents. We love them both equally, and they love each other. Here they are wrestling.

Never a hijack. Never even entered my mind.
This thread is all about Love. I can see you really Love Alex. I'll stand right next to you and cry.
