Help for a sweet dog in MI

I just received this from the Dogue de Bordeaux list. Since there are so many dog lovers here I was hoping that someone local to this guy might be able to help. PM if you can and I'll send you the email contact.

I am looking for anyone who can help with a dog here
in MI. Anyone within a reasonable distance who may be
willing to help, please let me know.

There is a male Golden Retriver mix that I am
currently trying to get a foster home or adoptive home
for.

His owners (who are idiots - sorry, but true!) are
moving from MI to NM, and are going by airplane, and
said they don't have the money to ship the dog down,
and the lady is pregnant & says the dog has too much
hair & she doesn't want all that hair around once her
baby is born. Sorry excuse.

This is an urgent situation because these people are
leaving Feb 29th. They said if they cannot get someone
to take him before then, they are going to take him to
the pound.

He is an adult male of 2 yrs old, NOT neutered...
which would make him a prime candidate to be put down,
but he is housebroken. The shelters here is MI are
overflowing with dogs just like this male, so I've
been told already that if he is taken to the shelter,
he'll be euthanized with 24 hours.

It's a shame to see such a sweet dog be killed. He is
2 yrs old, is terrific with kids and with other dogs.
He has been raised around cats and small dogs, so we
know he is great even around Chihuahuas and other
little dogs. I've been told he is fine around big dogs
too.

He is not a watch dog at all, just a big sweet boob
who loves all people.

If anyone can help in anyway.. can help network
something to save this guy before time runs out.. it
would be gretly appreciated!

There are rescue organizations that will help. Some are even breed specific.

Here's one:

index

I don't know if they are local, but I'll bet if you call their hotline they will be able to point you in the right direction.

My words for people who do this to their family members can't be said here, but they would be very colourful!

If you can tell me where in Michigan this person is, I can contact my rescue contacts and see if we can't help should the link I posted not be of any help.

Best of luck to you and especially the poor pup!

Thumbs down priorities...

Honey lets get a dog...

Honey lets make a baby...

Honey lets move and get rid of the dog...

Stupid people shouldn't breed...

If we didn't all-ready have our critter quotient. He'd be here in a N.Y.

minute.

KEEP US POSTED

The golden retriever rescue here in the NW has a waiting list of people wanting a golden. I'd be surprised to find it would be different back east. Maybe they need to ship their goldens out here!

A transport is not out of the question. My Samm was picked up in Kansas by a Foster family near Denver Colorado. We had troubles filling some of the travel legs and decided that it would be better for Samm to fly to Vancouver. Flying is really not that expensive and in certain cases is better for the dog than a long overland transport. But if there is a will, there is a way!

ETA: Stephanie, perhaps the rescue that you mention could talk to the rescue in Michigan and organize a new home in our beautiful part of the world!

Another shelter around here that has been know to go and pick up dogs is:

Adopt your pet or pets including dogs and cats from our animal rescue

We got our last pooch from them last Saturday. A no kill place!

They place about 50 dogs and 10 cats every single month. I'm sure they could find this pooch a home too!

The party trying to place the dog is located in Assyria Township. I don't know where the the dog is actually located.

I have written to the party trying to place the dog but have not yet heard back.

The problem with placing a retriever in Michigan may be due to a glut of puppies that just became available in Wisconsin. A large breeder went out of business and they are trying to finds places for over 100 pups.

Correction: The dogs are Labs, not Goldens, and most of them aren't pups, but less than a year old. The puppy mill owner isn't bankrupt, he just let the breeding get a little out of hand and couldn't sell them.

The Humane Society (bless them) is trying to find homes for them.

Hi all. Seems that my email has not been working. I finally got it fixed and contacted the person who posted the original message. Here is the message I received in response to my inquiries:

Must be I didn't receive their messages... I did reply
to several people who emailed me.

As it stands now, there is a lady named Valery from
the Animal Resource Network in Lansing who is supposed
to be meeting me 1/2 way and she is going to take the
dog.

He is immediately going to be neutered, vaccinated,
temperament tested and then placed up for adoption.

If anyone is in the area who would be interested in
adopting him afterward, please contact Valery Huberts
at valery.huberts@gmail.com

Thanks,

Michelle

I'm glad to hear that a rescue is stepping up to help him out. At least now he'll not likely be put to sleep.

Further Information:

He will be placed through the Animal Resource Network,
which is located in Lansing. I actually believe Valery
herself will be fostering him at her house until a
permanent home is found for the dog (named Max) and I
believe she lives in Grand Ledge.
