Thanks for the update. We were wondering but "afraid" to ask just in case, but given the way she plowed through the treatments she's definitely a fighter. A big part of that too is knowing she has such a loving home to spend her days in and get the kind of attention she deserves.

The story about the water line up is hilarious. They sure do make one's heart feel warm.

Merry Christmas,

Barry

It's good to hear she's doing well enough to give grief to the cat.
Give her an extra pat, and a rub behind the ears for us.

Here's a couple cute pictures. One is Alki lounging on the floor, waiting for something interesting to happen. Perhaps someone will come by and rub her tummy if she looks cute enough!

Second picture: Dave has a bowl of popcorn and everyone is begging for a piece, including Alki who is giving her most intense beg from the closest position she can muster, and the cat, who doesn't even know what she's begging for but if the dogs are getting something then she wants in!

Love the pics. I can see Alki is in good "I need attention" form. What a pleasure to have her, and the other two, in your lives.

I know what you mean about a cat checking out the potential for goodies even when it doesn't know what it is. Our cat is known for that as well. So Donna will give him a little piece which he'll sniff, then walk away.

Thanks for sharing those,

Barry

Snowday!

We had our best snow of the year today, and it was perfect for making snowballs and snow Darth Vaders! The dogs got out and ran around a bit, caught some snowballs, and had a great time, and now they're both collapsed sleeping on the rug! After the recent excitement of Jasper (the rescue who did not work out), they were both having a great time playing with each other and getting our full attention again.

Glad to hear everything is back to normal. You guys are having a wonderful life.

It's amazing how Alki has survived her ordeal without a blink.

Take care,

Great photos. It's good to see she's so full of life and energy. Your snowman looks pretty cool there with his arms raised. Looks like, "Yes! We have triumphed and life is good!"

Ahh, the Bryan Daily Buzzard! We lived at 109 Redbud in the early '60s. I was the perfect Huckleberry Finn age in a good place to grow up.

That's a very cool story! Thanks for the link. I've always had a fondness anyway for those people who set out to walk across the country for a cause. It seems like such a great way to see the country and meet the people and have an adventure.

Alki is doing very well, but I have worse news about her buddy Chester the dalmatian. He has been having a problem with gagging and coughing. The vet examined him and thought it was his stomach upset, and recommended a little pepto if he started gagging. The gagging would happen a few times a week if that, and it started weeks ago, before we brought Barclay home, because we were worried it was contageious and didn't want to bring the puppy home until we were sure it was ok.

Before we left on our trip last week the gagging suddenly escalated, and he kept us up all night coughing and choking. He exhausted himself until I really thought he was having a heart attack or something. So Chester went to the vet and stayed there the whole time we were gone.

When we got back they said he hardly coughed at all there in the kennel, so they wanted him to go home and rest and see how he did. The vet said he examined him and couldn't find anything to cause the gagging, and couldn't do anything else without x rays or further tests, which he didn't think were warrented yet.

So we brought him home Monday and he has just been miserable. It's awful to see him in such a state. He's coughing/choking constantly. He won't eat, he won't take ice cubes (his very favorite treat), he won't play with the puppy, he isn't even interested in taking himself outside to go potty. He just stands or lays coughing and choking. One weird thing is that he isn't whining at all. He normally whines all the time about everything, but he hasn't been making a sound.

So the poor guy is back at the vet today, and we're waiting to hear back about him. I'm afraid if they can't figure anything out, that might be it for the poor old guy. He's so artheritic and unsteady on his feet, and now not eating and choking, he just looks at me with thise sad eyes that beg for us to do something. And worse yet, sometimes his eyes are just blank, and you know he's just concentrating on whatever's hurting him. It's breaking my heart.

Steph, that's just awful - poor Chester! I know that's the most helpless feeling in the world, looking into those big eyes and not understanding how you can help. I hope the vet can figure out what's going on.

Steph, try an ultrasound of his throat. If your vet doesn't have one, get to a vet that does. Otherwise I'm thinking it's a heart problem. Could easily be heart worms or CHF. Good luck and get a second opinion before you make any decision.

Could it be that Chester is allergic to the new dog? If the problem cleared up while away from the pup, and returned when he was placed back with him, it may be the case, especially if it was not a real problem before.
