Stephanie,

"'Fado" and I have said a puppy prayer for you.

Sandy and I have had pets all our lives, hardly a day goes by without a lonely tear.

I just look in those soft brown eyes and all the wonderful times just come pouring over me.

It's strange how how Sandy and I remember our lives together by the Pet calendar.
We've now been married three and a half Dogs and two Cats.

Thanks all, we got some good news today. While the regular vet thought there were abnormal cells, the oncologist felt there was nothing unusual in the sample. I guess that's why you need second opinions. She says we're going to do a round of antibiotics to see if it's a bladder infection, even though she didn't find any sign of it in the sample, and after that if she's still peeing frequently we might do an ultrasound to see what's going on in there.

Could just be hormone related if she's been spayed. I'm so happy for this news. I know we all feel as if we know you and Alki personally.

She is spayed. Personally, I think she just likes to go frequently because she can. She has access to a dog run, and everytime we go outside she's all 'me too' and rushes out for a little tinkle.

But the oncologist wants to stay on top of everything, so that's good. They keep her pills on monthly refill so I'm forced to call them every month and let them know how she's doing. And they are always there to give advice or answer questions, and they haven't charged me a dime since our last visit. I have to say, I'm very happy to have such devoted experts on our team

Sad news for Alki. Yesterday she went in for her checkup and blood tests, and they found the cancer is back in a big way. In a way I already knew this just from watching her, they just confirmed my fears. At this point she is not in the condition she was when all this started. She is going blind and deaf, and likes to sleep a lot. She is of course as sweet and loving as ever, and active in short spurts. I don't think we're going to opt for any further treatments for her. I don't want to put her through a lot. So we'll just see how this plays out. We love her very much, and we're happy the treatments gave us an extra year and a half with her, and it's been a good year and a half too. She's been very happy through all of it.

Our dogs are such a part of the family, it really hurts to know we have to give them up sometime. It's always too soon.

Oh Steph, I wish there was something magical I could say. I know you've had a wonderful encore these past 18 months and I know you've taken every bit of that time as more precious than gold. I know cause I was in nearly the identical places you've been these past 18 months (less Chester) and have watched and listened to the happenings you've posted over the past 18 months.

I think yer doing the right thing and have done everything possible. A member of the family couldn't ask for more.

If there is anything you need, feel free to PM me.

Hugs, Stephanie...and a gentle rub behind the ears for your Alki. This is such a supportive forum when we face sad times. I know from our loss of Wally in December and the notes that came our way. Enjoy her days and keep us posted. You'll be in our thoughts~G

So sorry to hear this Steph. When Bandit started on his journey down, our efforts gave him another 6 months. You know you've done all you can and you can live with the fact that you tried. It's not easy....we know that.

Our best....

Jack
