I know exactly how you feel. I am also on my fourth Golden Retriever (Duffy, in the photo below). Each of them have had unique personalities, but they all were/are wonderful dogs. My heart goes out to you and everyone Riley touched in his life.

I am sorry you lost your good friend. We are also dog lovers and when you lose one it really hurts. We currently have a Bernese Mountain Dog, and he is a real love. I would recommend getting another dog, you can't replace the one you lost, but you can fill the empty spot.

I am sorry for you White Laker.
I had to put my own little pal down almost two years ago.
I still think about here nearly every day at 6 PM as that was the time I fed her dinner.
My wife doesn't want another one so I just think about the fun we had.

So sorry for your loss. Im getting a bit misty reading all of the responses. Our "Silver Dog House" hasn't been the same without our Yellow Lab Molly.

Sorry for the loss of a buddy and confidant. They keep all shared secrets secret and are always happy to see you.

They may never grow up but their life is far too short and finite. Riley was a great familly member who was game to go everywhere we went. the cottage hunting chipmunks, to camping with his brother Eddie, Riley was the best.

In my short experiance with our Airstream and camping, I have noted the strong correlationship of campers and dogs. As such I wanted to reach out to folks with dogs, or any pet and remind them to appreciate them when you can. Their time in our lives is a wink of an eye, but an eye and mind opening time well shared.

Good buy, my dear old friend.

Certainly that is exactly why I bought an RV: to travel with my dog without hassle (well, less hassle). I said goodbye to my next-to-last dog, McGeorge, some years ago, and felt all the emotions you must now be feeling. I waited a while to get my last dog until my old cat died, as I didn't think she would adjust well to a new dog. My last dog is now 3 years old, and I wonder who will outlive who. I'm sure I won't get another, as I would be at least in my 80's if I outlive her. I worry that I won't outlive her, and what would happen to her then, but if we get to spend a good part of our lives together, I think (hope) there will be people who will take care of her after I go.

Sorry for your loss.
I always think of this when someone looses their furry child.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Once again, I am so sorry for your loss having just gone through the same experience.

They walk with us, they sleep with us,
They sit with us when we are blue
They are happy to see us each time when we meet.
And when it is time for them to go
A pat of us goes too
So many steps we took together!

If there are dogs in heaven I want to go where they are
Rest in peace my beloved friend, my memories of you will be everlasting until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge .
