Sorry for your loss. We lost our 14 year old cocker, Maddie, a little over a year ago and thought after a lifetime of cockers that perhaps we wouldn't get another dog..... but after a couple of weeks of an empty house and a camping trip without a canine companion, we knew that we needed to have another cocker. Fiona just turned one and continues to enrich our lives.

Sorry for your loss.

Sending heartfelt sympathy your way. Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. Kelly

No matter how much joy or sorrow we have in our lives, our dogs are a constant. When you have to put one down it is inevitably traumatic... I have a 14 year old basset who I know is getting close to the end of her journey, and dread the day where I'll have to make that decision. The one we make in love and kindness because they simply do not deserve to suffer. The only compensation for this will be the acquisition of a puppy ... not to replace her, but to begin yet another journey with a new member of my family.

Sorry for your loss, I know it sucks, I am still sad about the passing of Dooley, a great friend, a loyal companion, and a personal role model for me, because he was better than me.

We lost our traveling kitty back in December. We adopted another cat the other day.
It is hard when they go, but it is a very worthwhile equation. You hurt and miss them for a time, but that time is much shorter than the time they gave you friendship, companionship, and love. I guess 5 months is as much of a hiatus as I needed to be ready for another feline friend. A house just isn't a home without a cat- or 2-
So sorry for your loss. I've stood where you are standing, my friend.

Our deepest sympathies are with you during this difficult time.

After 10+ years of fostering elderly dogs and litters of puppies for a local rescue, we have had many paws of all different shapes and sizes imprinted on our hearts. Though a few decided to adopt us and stick around, we never forget those who have left this earth. Know that your friend is waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge.

Beautifully expressed. Love and respect, that's the best part of the brief companionship.

Sorry for the loss of your dear friend. My Thor is getting pretty old now and one day I will sure miss him. I have had him since he was six weeks old. We still take walks together - just not as far these days.

So sorry for your loss! It's heartwrenching. Our Maggie is 15 years old, and starting to show her age. She still lights up any time the AS is in front of the house. She loves to go camping with us. I am aware of and cherish every moment we have left with her!

Thanks for sharing.

Your post obviously struck a chord with so many of us, whose sympathies I echo. And as much as it hurts to lose them, the joy they bring is worth that final hurt. Our very first overnight outing with our AS was bittersweet, as we returned home in the next morning to find our little dog had suddenly passed during the night, hopefully in her sleep. We were so shocked, sad and feeling guilty that we had not been there to comfort her. She was 15, which meant both she -- and we -- had enjoyed many years of love and friendship together. I feel your loss and your pain.

We feel your loss - our beautiful, sweet Gold Retriever Cassie passed eight week ago. We have rescued a four year old English Cream Golden Retriever six weeks and have been blessed to have Kooper in our lives we are looking forward to camping in our Bambi with Kooper very soon.

A sad day for sure and brings back the number of good friends I have lost over my 60+ years.. Being a farmer they are with me from daylight till dark. The best and most constant friend one could ever hope for..

I lost my last one over a freak mishap.. I felt so empty for a week,, as my day was empty without him by my side. Sitting on the tractor I see one can find anything off the internet so came home that night and sure enough.. Adopt a dog.com.. After looking at 10,000 photos there was just 1 that popped out at me and the next day made the phone call 150 miles away and picked him up.. Bandit is 1/2 Dingo,, 1/2 Aussie collie. A much different dog than any others I have owned over the years. Glad I am older as we would not have gotten along too well when I was a younger man.. Chows,, Shepherds,, Dane,, Corgi,, Spaniel,, so have had a good relation with all of them.

Take a few days to heal,, and dont mess around and find a new friend.. Its important. Sodbust

Alaska Annie said she loves everything about dogs except they don't live long enough.
I agree.
Very sorry you have lost Riley.

White Laker... I am very, very sorry to hear about your loss, for I know well that it is a huge loss.

I have an 11 year old Golden/Lab cross that is the closest companion to me and I know that my time with him is drawing short. With this reminder I will spend some extra time loving him today, as I do every day.

My heart goes out to you and may God bless you.

Don

They may never grow up but their life is far too short and finite. Riley was a great familly member who was game to go everywhere we went. the cottage hunting chipmunks, to camping with his brother Eddie, Riley was the best.
In my short experiance with our Airstream and camping, I have noted the strong correlationship of campers and dogs. As such I wanted to reach out to folks with dogs, or any pet and remind them to appreciate them when you can. Their time in our lives is a wink of an eye, but an eye and mind opening time well shared.
Good buy, my dear old friend.

White Laker - my condolences for your loss. Yes, a correlation between Airstreams and dogs. Part of the reason we purchased ours was we wanted our nine month old Australian Labradoodle, Sadie, to travel with us and dog friendly hotels isn't the solution.
