I have never encountered a no pets at all rule in any state park in the west. You keep them on a 6ft leash outside, or keep them inside of your tent or vehicle with you. Sounds like the east coast is just as stuffy and stolid as I remember it to be, (I'm a Cali girl now but I was born in CT).

I will keep this in mind should we go back east to visit my relatives.

Plenty of locations that accept and some that don't accept pets. We use AllStays app and read the rules before selecting a site.

We just spent a week on Cape Cod.....no problem with our two dogs in private CGs....

I follow a simple rule. If they don't want me, my dog or my 33 year old coach, then they must not want my money. I am much happier and more comfortable at the many, many places that are happy to accept my dollars and all that comes with them.

I don't trust people who don't like pets - if a campground didn't allow pets, I wouldn't go there whether I have a pet with me or not! We travel with 2 cats and 2 dogs.

I bought my airstream, as I'm sure many of you also did, so I could travel with my dog. If it weren't for my dog, I would probably just use B&B's. Northern California is very dog friendly; Southern California not so much. All the places we have visited in Oregon and Washington, including state parks, have been very dog friendly. The Canadian Rockies, in BC and Alberta, were more dog friendly than I could ever have imagined. Clearly, all the western mountain states are dog friendly: with so few people, I'm sure they wonder what all the fuss is about anyway. Fortunately, that covers about all the places I plan to visit with my airstream, so I guess I didn't waste my money.

Wow. We have two little dogs that take us camping in our AS. Looks like we either have to avoid some of the East Coast or check campground websites beforehand for pet rules.

Just a little southern humor. There are many beautiful places and people in the NE. I think wherever you go there are some kind of "silly" rules that make you shake your head. I just hits a nerve when they apply to our loved ones.

Hi, we live in New Hampshire and regularity camp in our state parks with our Lab and 3 cats! I don't know which NH State Park you ran into trouble in but I assure you that there isn't a wide spread general regulation against animals. I would be interested to know which park has that regulation.

Sorry that happened to you - we once ran into that same situation in Florida and it certainly was very upsetting!

Some campgrounds are run by folks who don't like dogs, don't like travelers, don't like whatever, and make little rules to make things difficult for those people.

I have been in a couple of campgrounds that don't allow your pets to pee or poop anywhere but in a designated area at one end of the campground....like you are supposed to pick them up and carry them to prevent that, or walk to that far area in the middle of the night, very early in the morning, etc.

Been in others that have daily surcharges per pet...just because.

I was in a COE campground, I think it was, last summer, and the guy at the desk told me it was policy that campers could not receive mail or packages.

What??!!

When I asked was that written policy, he said he would write one if I wanted him to.

I did get my package, but he made the FedEx person drive directly to my site.

Hi, I don't remember where it was, but we left one campground and went somewhere else, because they had a one page list of what your pets couldn't do. [about 15 items] This told me that Dusty wasn't welcome and either were we.

Two really nice campground in Mass both allow dogs. One is Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton Mass. It is hollowed out of the woods, with lots of room per site. I have stayed there off and on for the last 40 years. I know they take dogs as we had five Chihuahuas over the years. It is only open May 1, to Oct. 12th each year. Has approx. 100 sites.
The second campground is Normandy Farms in or near Foxboro Mass. It is open all year with 500 sites. Indoor swimming and lots of other things.
I loved camping with my puppies. Sometimes they were more welcome than we were with the children in the campground. The children knew all the puppies names but not ours.

If you are ever in the great North West in my state of Washington we have a total of 120 state parks.
Now please let me list the ones that will turn you away from a campground because you have a pet,

1) NONE OF THEM...

I jest received (seconds ago) an update on Washington state park pet friendly campgrounds and when I am wrong I want to correct the record. There is a state park in Washington that does not allow pets in the campground that is Hope Island state park. It's only accessible by water and the park officials don't want the wildlife on the island bothered by dogs or at least that was what I was told.
So that means out of 120 Washington State Parks 119 will not turn you away if you have a pet and are tired and want a place to rest.
