Here she is, our new 'Streamer'. We got Lizzy (our choice of name) from a rescue home. She was rescued hours from her euthanization. I asked why would such a desireable dog be euthanized. She came from an area that has very high home foreclosures and many families have to abandon or turn the pets in. The animal control agencies are overwhelmed. Lizzy is a mini pinscher terrier mix about a year old and 20 lbs, not too big. Very friendly but confused, I'm sure from being handed of to many different people in the past 2 weeks. Here are a couple of not too prize winning photos but she 'wins' hearts. The economic atmostphere now is providing a very high select group of pets for adoption. If you can 'save' a valuable and loving life.
Neil.

Car dealerships use ozone generators on smelly cars. If the stink is bad, leave it on for a weekend once back home. (Not to be used with anyone in vehicle). Get's rid of tobacco smoking, have tried it two vehicles.

A pet is a great reason to add a built-in vacuum.

Neil & Lynn, Lizzy is beautiful! With stability, routine and love, she'll come out of her shell and reveal her personality to you. That's how it was for my Samm. It might take a little work, but the effort will be rewarded with unconditional love. Thanks again for rescuing!

Awww. Sweet dog Neil & Lynn. Congrats!
And you are right, now is a good time to adopt a nice shelter dog if you possibly can.
Lots of lovable ones out there looking for good homes.

P.S. I always keep a pile of old "dog towels" in the back of the car.
The only time mine smell "doggy" is when they're wet.

I guess the dogs don't seem to mind, they get used to me .

Thumbs up

My dog smells better'n I do most of the time....

Seriously though, a PWD loves the water, if the water stinks the dog stinks, bathe asap, baking soda brushed through the coat when completely dry and another quick bath works for us.

This really helps keep the dog smell in check. I don't use febreeze, as I'm not a fan of chemicals or scents. Every now and then I'll dust the upholstery with baking soda and let it sit for a while, then vacuum it up. The baking soda will absorb odor.
Good routine to follow.

When dogs are acive they will smell like dogs, and I'd rather smell dogs than Fabreze!

Hi, put a skunk in your trailer and you will never smell dogs again.

Our trailer still has "new Airstream scent", so I don't worry about it yet. We keep the dogs clean, cover the upholstery if we're having a cuddlefest, vacuum and wash the floors after every trip. However, our Jeep sometimes gets that "Eau de Fido" scent. We also had 2 older trailers that we had to get the "other owner scent" out. We have found the " Environmental AirSponge" to work wonders. I haven't tried the knock-off brands, but the genuine AirSponge really works. It is a gel with charcoal in it. We punch holes in the lid instead of opening the whole thing up. We live in a dry climate and the product would dry up too quickly if we did. It isn't a perfume. It really eliminate odours. I don't use it in the new Airstream because it would remove the "new Airstream scent", which is chemical out-gassing, but I like it! ;-) Truly, I like the smell of my dogs more than many people I encounter. Don't you all just love sniffing that spot at the top of the head just behind their ears? Heaven!

My Animal Routine:

I also keep about a million old towels at home, in the car and the trailer to give them a good dry off before they come inside. They can get a yeasty skin condition if they are left wet too much. You know when they get that, you can smell them a mile away and wherever they sleep will smell the same way. Also I pay close attention to drying their ears thoroughly with the corner of a towel. Dogs with flap over ears tend to be prone to a yeasty/bacterial ear infections when they are in the water a lot. I use a special cleansing agent to spray in there occasionally to help prevent it. Dogs in good health and a clean environment shouldn't smell.

From someone who loves to have her animals around her all the time and now that the Tradewind is taking a break in my backyard, I have worked out a little system to keep things in order. To keep the trailer from being overwhelmed with hair since the dogs are in there everyday, I use a fleece throw on the sofa and another large fleece blanket on top of the bed, and a throw rug, wash them frequently and sweep everyday.

Just recently I have been introducing my two cats into staying in the trailer with us. I put a mini kitty litter box under the edge of the bed and when I found out the dogs were stealing all their food when my head was turned, I made a special cat feeding area. I had one empty under bin area beneath the front gaucho by my table, so I leave the cabinet door open, put a small towel down in there, place the food and water in the back and then put in a small motion detector light at the entrance. The cats go in, the light goes on and they eat their meal in peace. With the addition of the cats, I also brought my small portable rechargeable vacuum to the trailer and leave it plugged in up on the small shelf above the cabinets in the bathroom, then use it to get the kitty litter the cats have thrown out of their box in the morning.

The first night I tried having the whole bunch of them in the trailer with me for a sleepover, I climbed into bed with some big pillows and a book and next thing I knew, they all found a space up there cuddled around me. It looked like I had a black furry comforter on the bed. Good thing they all get along..........

I try to wash my dog as often as possible and make sure that if he enters my Airstream he is dry. That should do the trick.

The way my dog smells is one of the most incredible smells in the world. I bathe my dog regularly, and embrace his natural odor. Its the dog hair that I have to learn to live with. I'm with CameronT120, chemicals in your home environment are a terrible idea for your health and the health of your pet.
