Dog training, shows?
Hi, I didn't search is this was discussed before, but the oldest thread showing on this page is from 2006, so it may be ok to open a new one.
I am getting a Malinois, a 2 year old spayed that is mostly trained. Are there any folks that compete in agility or competitions? No bite work for us though.
The animal will be ready to be picked up in November when we'll mostly full time it together. Ok, mostly no, we'll full time it, I'll have a lot of time to continue training her.
Is there anyone else "into" dog training? This is a stretch, anyone interested in a AS dog show meet?

I showed dogs for about 20 years as a professional handler, breeder and judge. Didn't do too much obedience or agility, but I have a good AS friend who trains dogs for that. He has put CD, CDX, UD and agility degrees on one of my champion standard poodles. Even taught him to pull a cart. He lives in upper IL, so probably not a candidate for your idea. Traveled to the shows in my 1968 Caravel for years. Got addicted to these trailers. Good luck with your new family member.

We jump too!
We train and compete in agility too! In fact we bought the AS and sold our small T@B when we added a vending business (Golden Retreat Agility) to our weekend routine. Unfortunately, our trialing has been put on hold due to the recent diagnosis of a rare skin cancer deep in my dog's ear. It required major surgery and possibly radiation treatments. We will know later this week about that.
We train in Connecticut and trial in New England and eastern NY.

I don't do anything with my two labs other than go for walks, swim and play fetch. In fact, I'd say my two have me pretty well trained! I know several people who do agility with their dogs. I think my chocolate would do really well at it but at this point in my life I've got too many other demands on my time.

I compete with my Australian Shepherd in Agility, and go to trails in the NJ, PA, and DE area. I also have shown in obedience and breed with my Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Agility is so much more fun, so I mainly do that now, but will compete in Rally with my Berner, when he gets a little more mature!
Good luck with your new dog, Malinois are very smart dogs! Several compete in this area. I would be interested in an AS dog show meet!

We really should have a boondock meet. No judges, no neighbors, just fun with the dogs.

I see you have your Malinois now. She looks great. How is she working out. What is her name? It is great that you are full timing, and will be able to spend alot of time with her. She is a lucky dog.
