Hi, I keep one set of trailer keys in my pocket at all times. The other set is in my tow vehicle. I also always keep one set of tow vehicles keys in my pocket at all times. The other set of those are in my trailer. And my tow vehicle has keyless entry. I had made several sets of spare trailer keys and so far, only used them for the pet sitter.

Is this unintended locking issue a problem with just the newer Airstreams? I can't see how ours would unintentionally lock.

If it has a lock someday it will lock you out. Yes, even a deadbolt can do it. May even do it to you depending on how it feels that day. I have extras but am wary of others gaining access via purse-snatchers, pick pockets or car thieves. Take time to come up with best solutions.

I have a 2006 Classic and the door locked when then wind blew it shut. Luckily, we converted our dinnette into a long bench and the area under that was an outdoor storage bin became the dog bed and I was able to wiggle myself inside through the dog crate to open the door. We now have an extra set of keys in the TV, one key for the door in a hide-a-key and one set inside the camper. My days of crawling through the cubby are hopefully over

Yes, I believe the self-locking door was standard equipment on your Airstream.

What years is the lock out issue a problem? I've got a 1979 with a deadbolt and handle that both lock independent of one another. Inside, the deadbolt is locked by moving a red lever. No problems yet, but don't want them either....

I've had two '76, a 2000, and now a 2007. They all came with the self-locking feature as standard equipment. It is not the deadbolt. It is the entry latch itself.
Always take your keys.

The latch itself gets stuck in the strike plate, even though there is no way to lock/unlock ONLY the latch with a key? Maybe my lock is different in that the latch isnt lockable...

Yes, I've had copies made at a hardware store. The blanks for mine are Hillman AP2

My keys on the 25FB were not available locally or from the selling dealership. I ordered them from the factory as they had a new lock mechanism vendor.

Ordered another set of replacement keys yesterday from Airstream store for the main door ($2.47) and deadbolt ($2.10) plus a $1.00 shipping fee. If you tell them the codes on your existing keys, they can send you exactly what you need. Can't beat that for a good deal!

Thanks. I guess that makes two ways our camper can trap people - the slider on our screen door has the words "SLIDE OPEN" written on it in magic marker after someone apparently discovered it is possible to close the door with the slider over the handle, making it essentially impossible to open the door from the inside again.

Oh, Airstream...

Now you know why we have a "lock out kit" that we supply at "no charge".

Just send us your request with a SASE and 2 stamps on it.
