Thank you for sharing the pictures with us Terry. What a big personality for such a small dog!

I'm sorry I missed this thread when it happened. You both have my deepest condolences. I've been living with the thought of losing my pup every day for the last 7 months or so and it hasn't made it the slightest bit easier. I know it will still be unbearable when it happens. My heart goes out to you.

Cookie, plus one year.

A lot (almost everything) has changed in our lives over the past couple of years, and even more has changed in the 363 days since we lost Cookie. In one year, we have moved across the country, taken a job at Inland RV, gotten a "new" dog to keep our laps warm, gotten a new truck and B van, even helped out a forums friend with an ailing pet (http://www.airforums.com/forums/f239...ack-43534.html).
I was notified this morning that Jack, the four-legged family member in the post linked above, lost his fight Friday, which got me thinking about our lost pet, nearly a year to the day of when we lost Cookie. We are now a continent away from where we were last year at this time, but that doesn't make me stop thinking about a small grave marked by a flush stone in the ground near where we lived.
While Sophie is not Cookie, nor will she ever be (I would never expect one pet to be the same as another) , she is a great dog, and a loyal and heroic companion in her own right. Sophie just jumped in my lap while I was typing this, she knows I am upset, but doesn't know why. My digital camera was laying on the table next to me, and I picked it up and snapped this photo. The composition isn't that great, I was lucky I even got any part of either of us in the frame.
Remember to pet your four-legged friends, you never know when they may no longer be with you to enjoy your company.

It has been a rough year...we lost two 4-legged friends, too.

it sucks, for sure.

Remembering

I do'nt know if this is the right time, but it seems like a good time to share this. It is something I first shared with the Airforums community way back in 2003 in a thread started by Yukionna called, In Memoriam-- Kelsey.
I wrote it about twenty years ago for a girlfriend who had to put her beloved Dobie down. It is called...

You're Not Here Anymore

Sitting here quietly, thinking,
staring at the spot that was yours
beside the T.V.
You're not here anymore.
I will remember forever
the closeness we shared,
the security I felt
just knowing you were there.
You're not here anymore.
I can still clearly see
those soft brown eyes,
the way they would express
exactly what you were trying to say.
Until I finally realized,
it's time to go, OUTSIDE.
I shall never cross it from my mind
the look of pain in those eyes
and how they seemed to be crying.
What is happening to me?
Please make this pain go away.
I remember those eyes,
the things they would say.
There is an emptiness now,
in my heart, in my life, beside the T.V.
There are echoes of you
outside the door.
There is an emptiness there,
because you're not here anymore.

Silverhawk

I know many of us know the feeling and sadness of losing a beloved pet.
This is for all of you.

Thumbs up

Terry,

Looks as though Sophie is doing everything Cookie told her too....

Many smiles I bet.

I love your photo's.

There may be folks who can do without them, but I'm thankful we are not among them.

Good luck in all your new adventures.

Here's one that should bring a smile......

We lost our 13 year old golden, Baby last month. Reading this has started the tears flowing again. Seeing Sophie makes me realize that we will have another furry one to love again, just not yet. I can tell that Cookie is still in your heart where she belongs. Hope tomorow is a better day.

Dannie,

It does get better, but never goes away. Memories are great and will bring smiles to you later.

If only they could stay

This thread has again brought back the bittersweet. I miss my Maggie. And I hope Ms. Lulu lives forever. But alas, not in this world I'm afraid.

Dannie, your hurt is fresh and my heart goes out to you. Marie is right.

Terry and Marie, and to all who still miss their pets, may time continue to take away the pain and leave the sweetness of having shared their lives with us.

Terry

The picture you posted in message # 59 is really great - the expression is priceless.

It's amazing how much our furry companions mean to us. We lost one of ours last October - Sam - our blue mink Tonkinese. He was more monkey than cat and he was incredibly high spirited. He lived to be 16 and had some difficult health issues. He died in my lap. It broke my heart.

We still have two Burmese cats - Gus and Philip. We want to start to get them accustomed to traveling with us. We'll see if we can convince them that an Airstream is where they want to be once in a while.

I know many of us know the feeling and sadness of losing a beloved pet.
This is for all of you.

Wow. By the third line, tears were streaming down my face. That's a beautiful poem. Thank you.

I just posted a couple pics of my girls on another thread. My whippet was diagnosed with a rare type of kidney disease about 6 months ago. The vet specialist has not given me much hope....and I fall asleep crying often. The thought of the emptiness is overwhelming. But, she is the most active, most hearty whippet I've ever known. I pray she will be with me until she's an old lady.

My heart goes out to all of you who have had to say goodbye to your companions. I know too well how difficult it is .....

Here's my girl in her favorite viewing spot in the house. Just this morning she jumped up there and immediately back down. I realized the blinds were closed and she couldn't get a view of her friend, Scarlet (a greyhound neighbor) out for their morning walk. I opened them as quickly as possible
