Cats and toilets

This may gross some of you out, but I'm in the process of toilet training our two cats. I'm tired of cat litter all over the place....so my question, will cat waste (without cat litter) damage the workings of the head? SS

Only if the cat slips and subsequentially gets stuck in the pipe. Just kidding....
I imagine that cats waste will not cause a problem in your black tank, but who's going to flush? I'd rather have cat litter than smelly floaters in the toilet the whole time. We have a cat, would you let us know of the progress with toilet training them?

Years ago when our last kitty was still a youngster, we tried potty training to no avail She decided to train us instead by leaving "treasures" in very indiscreet locations of her choosing...we finally gave up & she lived to a ripe old age of 19 with me cleaning her litter box & grumbling...

Love to hear if you are successful...we gave up!

Shari

P.S. We have a new kitty and decided we weren't going to try...figure litter just goes with the territory...good luck!

Cats

I tried this about 7 years ago with the same cats. It was unsuccessful - the kit I bought came with a flimsy plastic cover and the cats never got used to it, also I was impatient and tried to rush the process. Recently found a web site that gives really good tips and decided to try again, seeing (pictures that seem to prove) the good results. Have dedicated one commode to the cats, bought flushable kitty litter, and heavy duty foil (disposable) pan. Am resigned to the fact that it will take 2-3 months. I'll keep you posted! Sorry to hear you lost one good cat, but happy you have another one to love!! SS

Here is a picture of "the boys" - Black Jack and Buddy. Pre-Airstream.

Can't get the picture to post - but it's in my Photo Gallery if you want to see it. SS

No, I grabbed the picture from a web page. Currently no cats own me, at one time 3 did. Look closely at my avatar you will see a Miniature Schnauzer between my wife and I that is my cat / youngest son.

Hope you have success with the training. You now have everyone watching to see if you succeed.

Update on toilet training

Good husband has decided he will not share toilet with cats, and he doesn't want guests to either, since cats refuse to flush afterwards ....so that left me with a huge dilemna. Cats were using the guest toilet. I had an aluminum roasting pan with a small amount of litter in it and was planning to slowly decrease litter amount and gradually increase small hole in bottom of pan, until there was no room left for litter and cats were forced to stand with all fours on toilet seat. That was Plan A. OK, now to Plan B.

Have modified the litter box, put a lid on it and cut a hole in the lid. In the hole is a small bowl with 1 cup of litter. One cat has successfully learned to place all paws outside of the little bowl of litter, but the other cat still wants at least two paws in the bowl . Both cats are successful in targeting this small bowl, no messes outside the bowl!! Next step, which could be weeks away, is to transfer to a child's toilet seat, you know, the one with the bowl under it. I'll start with about a cup of flushable litter, and then decrease the amount, until no more litter. I'll be left with a little bowl of you know what, to flush. Hmmmmm, I wonder if this is worth the effort??
We take our very first AS trip tomorrow. Can hardly wait.

Thank you, Dear Lord, for Dogs!! (Especially Boxers) They just drink from the toilet.

Sorry, just could not help it.
