I used to sell macaws and amazons before CITES shut down responsible trade. I bought a Nape really, really cheap because it was missing a toe. I sold it for a 10 dollar gain at 110 bucks, it was the most miserable, meanest bird that I ever saw, the only one I could never hand tame.
I sold it to a happy guy, but his personal appearance was kind of scary, sort of like a heroin addict that ran out of money 7 days ago.
Two years later some guy walked up to me laughing in Sacramento, "Hey remember me?" I didn't and didn't want to.
"You sold me a bird a couple of years ago", (sometimes the world really is small, and maybe too small). He seemed kinda happy still so I didn't think I was going to die in 30 seconds, maybe 5 minutes. I politely asked how he was doing, and mentioned that the bird was kind of mean.
The guy started laughing and said "heel'ya, that is a mean som'bitch!. But he loves smoking weed!". He went on to describe how friendly the bird became, hanging upside down from the perch, singing, playing, talking and laughing (he didn't mention chocolate).
So I was really happy, every man (and bird) should have a home!
