During our current stay in JC for Cosmo's repairs:

Bandit our Siberian developed a "red ear". We thought she had irritated it by the occasional scratching with her rear paw claws, but it woulsn't go away the last few days, just got worse...

So, I jumped on the AHAA (American Animal Hospital Association) website and found a hospital / clinic in Troy, just 17 miles away from our hotel.

Called the clinic to get an appointment today, got in at 10AM, and 30 min later was out with a diagnosis (Yeast infection in the ear) and meds.

So, for those who travel with our pets, bookmark the website for future reference. I usually have printout listing by each state I will be visiting or traveling in, but forgot this time.... Good thing for the internet...

I hope the ear clears up quickly. My chocolate Lab used to get them regularly until I switched him to a grain free diet. He hasn't had any infections since the switch. This may be something that you would be interested in trying for Bandit. We switched to Evo, but there are several other brands that are grain free.

Our Dalmatian has also had a lot of ear problems related to food allergies. Strangely enough, allergies often cause infections in only one ear - go figure?

Sometimes when we arrive in a new town for a few days we'll scope out a nearby vet and stop in to say hello and find out where the nearest 24 hour vet is as well. I figure most of the time you have an emergency it's after regular office hours, so I like to know where the nearest help is. Sometimes it's quite a ways away!
