A moment for our Wally: November, 94-December 23, 2008

We now have joined the fellowship of so many of you who have shared the stories of losing your loved pets. Our old Weimaraner, Ozark Walnut or Wally, finally told us yesterday that he was just too achey and weary. We thought we would have to help him on at Thanksgiving, but he rallied, resumed slow rambles around our pond, let little two year old Amber rub his ears and sit on his back gently, all his favorites. But gradually, he weakened until yesterday afternoon, his hind quarters just stopped working. His passing with the aid of our veterinarian and with all of us around him was peaceful, just the nicest closure to the life of a great dog that I can imagine. We'll miss him achingly, but we know he's now young and muscled and energetic again in that land across the Rainbow Bridge. Besides, he was met by his "cousin" Skippy, our daughter's Yellow Lab, and they are wrestling and playing, best friends once again. Wally, we loved you. You were a great dog, our good and faithful friend. Missed so much by Moose, German Shorthair; Jack, Yellow Lab; G and M and family.

G. I am so very sorry. You wrote a beautiful tribute so I will just add that my heart goes out to you. I do believe pets are gifts from God. Whatever length of time we have together is a blessing for them and for us.

I'm so sorry to hear your loss! Take plenty of time to think and grieve. We lost our Toby just over a year ago, and we're just now able to talk about finding a new companion.

SilverHawk and others, thank you for your thoughts for our Wally. We spent last evening in happy memories. We were sitting around the Christmas tree and fire, when Wally stories just started tumbling...first one of us, then another, and we laughed and laughed. That was a very good time, and I think set the tone for us. We are saddened, but by retelling all the favorite stories, we see him now as he has been for so many years with us. Joy...~G

So sorry for your loss, I also know that heartache. The rainbow bridge poem is wonderful. It makes the tears just flow.

We too are so Sorry you have lost a member of your family. Believe me we know the hurt you feel.
When MaryLou and I got married I brought with me a whole kennel 7 miniature Schnauzers, of which there is only 1 left. My line was plagued with Cancer and Heart problems. So ONE by ONE they went as you say "OVER RAINBOW BRIDGE"
We have the memories. They brought joy to our lives.
We have now gone to Rescues and filled the gap.

Max and Georgia,

My thoughts are with you as I sit here reading posts and having coffee. My faithful companion, Thunder, lays on the floor beside me. He is a 15 year old Springer Spaniel and is my best friend in the whole world. He is slowing down and I dread the day his legs give out. He doesn't walk a lot and I can tell that the legs are getting tired. I have to carry him up and down the stairs.

I once had an Irish Setter named Wally and I hope your Wally and he are meeting up for a good run in the meadows on the other side.

Max and Georgia, I am sorry for loss of your beloved pet. It is truly difficult to make the decision when the time comes, but the animal is at peace and no longer hurting. Maybe you'll find another dear pet when the time is right.

Hey M & G. Sorry to hear about your pooch. I too have been there and all I can tell you is he'll be in your heart forever. Few days go by that I don't think of my pooch that passed nearly a year and a half ago. All the thoughts though are of the fun times and personality traits..... it always puts a smile on my face, even though I still miss her.
