Well I Towed my patched up Classic from West Yellowstone to La Grande, OR over the last two days. I must say the Diesel engine is quite an improvement over the Gas engine of my old truck.
I was climbing up through a 7000 ft pass with the trailer in tow and not loosing any speed. Just for kicks I stepped on the accelerator and she gained speed going up hill at 7000 ft! Cool.
Additionally I am geting 30% better fuel milage with only 8% increase in fuel cost. That is 22% cheaper per mile of towing. I expect my non towing milage to exceed the non towing milage of the old truck.

I had not realized the difference would be that significant. Impressive numbers and with your truck not even broken in for at least part of the trip I can only assume the mileage will get better yet. Something I need to consider once I'm able to drive again and look for an alternate tow vehicle. Thanks for sharing that.

Michelle, is good to know that the ill effects of your untoward event are beginning to dissapate, and some things are even better now than before. Tow on safely and keep the faith.
Hi Michelle, glad you made it back to La Grande,,, am amazed at the mileage improvement,, knew about the power, take care,, donna ps,, pictures, pictures
Diesel schmiesel! What color did you get? Okay -- a for me...
Years ago I had a station wagon with an optional larger gas engine. This thing had kick -- until I tried to pass up near Yellowstone. It sure drove home the altitude problem with normal aspiration. My '06 Duramax still has the one-stage turbo. I recall that Dodge & Ford were going to the two-stage turbos earlier in the transition on the new emission standards. Two-stage is supposed to give more boost. You'll love it whichever turbo you have!
Congrats on the new TV, I look forward to being back out in that area. My last job had me visiting LaGrande on a regular basis - go visit Stawberry Mt. for us!

Of course that two-stage will come with the price of seeking out the new fuel BTW...
If you see me on the road you will know it.

The closest Rhino dealer is in Enterprise.
I have seen a few Airstream parked in the yards on the way to Wallowa lake. One of them Yours?

It is silver. My third color choise. I do love the turbo. I was getting pretty consistant 10" boost at 7000 ft. Down lower it maybe 0 if not accelerating.
