Wiring 2008 Dodge 2500 to 1985 Excella

I just bought a 2008 Dodge with a 7 pin flat plug and I need to wire my 85 a/s that currently has a 9 pin round plug (I assume you have to do away with the tire-tele wire and the refigerator switch wire?). I have grounded the pickup to the trailer. When I hook a tester to the pickup and then to the corresponding wire on the a/s nothing on the airstream will light up. Can anyone give me a hint on what I am doing wrong?
I have all the diagrams, but can't figure why nothing will light up. I am going to put a 7 ping trailer plug on the a/s.

Obviously you can do that if you want, but wouldn't it be better to install a 9 pin round connector on the Dodge and wire it up? You will need at least 8 of those pins, 9 if you wire up the backup lights.

Just my opinion.

The 9 pin on the a/s is pretty much shot. I already have the 7 pin plug to replace the 9 pin, but I can't get any of the lights on the a/s to light up. I may go back to a 9 pin later, but I need to get ready to pull the trailer by February 13th. All the lights were working on the a/s when I parked it in October.

If you can't get ANY of the lights to work, it is most likely a ground problem.

Figured it out. My test probe was showing continuity, but wasn't pushing enough juice to light the lights. Used alligator clips with 16 guage wire and the lights worked. Thanks for you suggestions.
