Are you serious? My TDI 3.0 had 405lbs torque, the EcoBoost V6 has around these same and both are a bit more than the V8 engines.

Numbers do not lie, torque and horsepower compared at the same RPM's tells the complete story when we are talking engines.

I believe the comment has to do with long term reliability more than anything. Some of us keep TV's a very long time, thus the musing. A bit like crowing about ones hybrid until time to replace the batteries. Sticker shock!!

It's all about internal engine pressures, heat,, rpms,, and duration..

All I am saying is there are real world limits,,, and what we are seeing at this point from the car and truck companies are some big claims and big performance and no real million mile real world road tests. yet!

Over the years semi truck engine makers have always wanted to get the most power out of the smallest engine they could use as the weight savings rolls back over to added payload.. Once they hit the 1/2 hp per cubic inch the engine life curve drops like a rock.. Right up too that 1/2 hp/cu/in its easy to get over a million mile mark engine life with nothing more than oil changes.. Anything over that balance point the engine life might drop to only 450,000 miles with only 50 more hp added or another 5 lbs turbo boost. Its the pressure limits fact and just a hard fact of life..

Hi, me too; I think whatever I buy next will out last me, at least for towing.

If you really want a lifetime warranty that means something, convince your partner to move a country that permits multiple marriages and take a 20 year old to be wife or husband #2. I can't think of anywhere that allows more than one husband, but I'm sure there is somewhere.

Can my 2005 X5 4.4 tow this thing SAFELY??

What do I need to do this??

I am a frustrated newbie, and ANY real response is greatly appreciated, 'cause right now, I have 6000 pounds of beauty in my driveway and I have no idea where to turn.

I see the posts about this combo - where an X5 is towing closer to 8000lbs - but a BMW tech told me today that he would not do it - even at unloaded, dry weight.

Thus, the radical confusion.

I am a good man, with a good heart. I even paid taxes a few times...

What do I need to make this combo happen, my new friends...?

I have a good friend in the Vintage Airstream Club who tows part of the time with his BMW X5, and I do know that he was generally pleased with its performance. I don't remember too much about what he had to say about modifications/preparations required prior to towing, but you might try contacting DPeakMD he is a very busy man and isn't on the Forums frequently but I am certain that he would respond to a Private Message or E-Mail reqarding your concerns about towing with your BMW X5.
