What should the ground clearance be?

Just received my Enkay rock guards and am getting ready to install them on my truck (4x4 3/4 ton Dodge). Very impressed with the quality and ease of installation. However, no info on what the ground clearance should be. What kind of space should I have between the bottom of the flap and the road surface to get the best protection?

I have mine about 2inches off the ground. They touch once in a while on a woop-t-doo but not often. It seems if they are to low they would kick up debris of the road.----pieman

Longtime Hensley & Enkay using member, davidz71, told me that Enkay says to use 4" for ground clearance. Figuring I could raise it later if need be, I used about 3.5" -- with my Safari hitched up and WD gear engaged like I'd be pulling. Driving around with the Enkays on back and no trailer I figure it rides closer to 4" on my 3/4-ton GMC. When not towing, going into some parking lot entries will raise up the truck front and drag the Enkays for a second or so. I don't want to wear the one inch up into the encased anti-flyaway metal strips. I've got no visible loss of length so may sit on this length for a while.

hi new enkay users and others......

installed on a 4x4 superduty with hensley and 4 inch drop as reference point...
i shortened the nk's by 6 inches at install
this gives me about 1-2 inches of clearance which fully hitched
and 3-4 inches when not
of course this clearance could be reduced by lowering the nk swing arms...
another nice feature of the product...

i occasionally drag when going over undulations while parking the trailer,
or on sharper turns that also involve dips.
at highway speeds the 1-2 inches of clearance becomes 2-3...
because of the very slight lift on the flaps at 65-70 mph...

also have aftermarket mudflaps right at the wheel wells

for adjustments i went out on a wet country road
and watched the mud fly.......
adjusting the flaps to reduce any 'spray' onto the trailer
above the segment protectors,
like onto the clear rock guards or upper curved segments.....

thats right mub will fly high!

even with lots of tweaking it's not perfect protection
my main goal with the nk's
is to keep the rocks/gravel that get stuck in tires
while driving around rv parks and so on.....
from banging up the trailer
when it flys out like bullets from a gatlin gun,
at highway speeds...

they also keep the mudflap critters at bay.....

it's one thing to clean road grime and tar from the shinny skin....
but another thing entirely removing animal parts.....
