Note that the VW is an AWD and has fronts ad rears spinning. Right at the end you can see the truck isn't in 4WD...fronts are rolling backward. This is just a demonstration of traction.

Well it does say something about the the little TDI, at least in comparison to two wheel drive one tons....

With no weight in the bed of a 2WD pickup it isn't a fair fight.

This would not happen if they had a ProPride hitch and Michelin LTs.

I dont think if the chev was in 4x4 mode the results would be much differnt. Had a chev truck for around two years, was the worst two years of my life. Never carried a heavy load and the frame broke on both sides just rear of the rear axle.

Once the Chevy broke traction it was over. I can pull a Kenworth with a VW Beetle if the KW breaks the drive wheels loose. Simple physics here, gain the coefficient of friction advantage and the fight is over.

VW..."special tune"??
The Chevy is not set up properly... once it started the axle, u joint, leaf springs started twisting, etc...
No doubt the VW driver did a great job.

Without properly applied Canadian fairy dust the Chevy was doomed!

I saw one of a Duramax doing the same to a semi. As Kevin245 noted, once the semi broke traction, the Duramax pulled it. I remember someone in that video saying the owner of the Duramax had spent 18k on the drivetrain. Not sure why anyone would want to do this to their vehicle but whatever turns them on I suppose.

Ha!
Given the bicycles, and the smoke stack coming out of the bed of the truck, that's all I needed to see about the intelligence of this video. The impression I got of the Duramax driver was he was 12 years old @ best. Certainly didn't know how to drive the rig that's for sure.
Rating IMHO = 0.

Got any pictures of that broken frame or what you actually did with the truck?
Something about this entire post that's crying foul.

The Touareg TDI and it's cousins are impressive tow vehicles, would be good to see a video of a handling and braking test with travel trailer in tow. Anyone have one?

This is not a fair test. Duramax did not have an emission cheat device...

I'm not sure what year the Chevy is but here's the specs on a 2016 3500 duramax. I'd love to see that VW try to tow 23,000 lbs up a hill. I'd love to see it try to keep that much under control going down hill even more. 😂

VW doesn't sell the V10 diesel anymore and from what I've read they didn't have a good reputation for reliability.

The V10 Tauregs certainly were impressive, but as Kelvin mentions, they had their share of reliability problems and were very expensive to fix. If you read the comments below the YouTube video, the guy that posted the video admits the Taureg was in 4x4 low range while the Duramax was in 2WD high range. As others have posted, it was just a matter of traction and gearing. Still, with 553ft/lb of torque the V10 Taureg was no slouch.
