however, only 2014 model year Touareg, 2015 year Porche and 2016 year Audis.
While this shakes my confidence to the core, I may still review my desire and move ahead with the purchase of a 2016 model year Touareg TDI...
... or I may just replace the transmission on my F150 Ecoboost... meh!

I would like to eat lunch with the manager of the product who had this idea to install the software. If I would be interested in VW cars, this might be the time to buy one...

oh yeah -- the price on this Touareg TDI sport/tech (with tow and prewire) is about 8K off the usual MSRP. ZAP buying service for USAA placed my pricing at the bottom of their scale -- and the dealer is honoring it with a fantastic trade-in offer on my F150 ecoboost... meh!

The 3.0 VW, Audi and Porsche Diesel has been pulled from the market....let's hope temporarily. I've had a Cayenne Diesel on order for several months with a Jan. 1 delivery date and was informed this week, it will not be built due to the Stop Sale. I know of another buyer who's 2016 was on the water, and he was also informed his Cayenne will not be delivered.

VW TDI's
In October of 2015 we bought a 2015 Passat TDI Premium SEL from a Volkswagon dealership. They were able to sell it to us because it was considered used, as it was a manager's personal car with 2,200 miles on it.
We love it and we got a great deal. Not sure when any recall may occur but Volkswagon will have to pay for the repairs.
We were told that no new 2015 TDI on the lot could be shown or sold and that all the 2016 TDIs were sitting at the port docks.

While there may be some "good deals" available in the short run, my guess is that the feds will mandate the software change, by serial number, and your "good deal" purchase will run like crap day to day, just like it does during the emissions tests. May not be worth the savings for the lost performance in the long run.

Like you say, that's a guess. Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe you'll get some cash
Of course you'd have to spend at least half of it at a VW dealer.

Being long time TDI owners we stopped by VW today to see how this looks from a dealer's perspective. They expect things to be worked out by the first of the year. With these models backing up at ports and dealerships, they're thinking VW will offer very good incentives to get them moving again.
They are able to sell used TDI's if they are not certified. Once certified, they must wait for VW's okay, cannot remove the certification and sell. This has no impact on deals among private parties, although it may be a buyer's market.
We've been considering a Touareg TDI, Dodge Durango Hemi, or Toyota Sequoia for some time, a good tow vehicle for our Airstream and daily driver for the other 80% of our needs.
While some see this as a scandalous affair, TDI fans realize it's not leaving any carnage on the roadways or burned corpses in garages as others have done. And for those in the market, it may be an opportunity. We left our phone number with the VW dealer.

Details are sketchy and still coming in...
Actually no -- details are sharp and pronounced and suggest it's the ecoboost owner panicking unnecessarily to an issue spotted during a weekend getaway round trip from Virginia to Chicago.
#### START BAD TANGENT (good content follows)
When driving in sixth and entering a stretch of incline, wether towing or not, my vehicle will start to attempt (and fail) downshifts to fifth, resulting in a bumping sensation to me, repeatedly. Manually downshifting via the stalk will relieve the issue. Cure -- transmission tune; that's it.
#### END BAD TANGENT
My TDI order is canceled as a result of this activity this week. Others here quote ETA of start of the year, my dealer (largest in my region,) say openly they don't know when a solution will be offered to the TDI Touareg; but they feel that it's more an issue on these engines of the EPA saying "wow, you're numbers are great! prove to us you're not cheating here too" and VW saying "to do so would require release of proprietary information to our competitors. So... 'No.'" leading to a self-imposed impasse.
So, I think I'll be buying into an F250 Diesel, King Ranch Supercab instead... 14 inches longer than my current F150, but I am ok with that given the additional driver aids (cameras, etc.) added to the line-ups since 2013.
