Just arrived home with our new-to-us rig. '70 Jeep Wagoneer (Buick 350 V8) and '62 Globe Trotter.
It was a long trip: flew to Dallas, took a Greyhound to Texarkana to get the truck, drove to Beaufort, SC for the trailer... and finally back to Chicago.
9 days worth, but well worth the effort. And this pair were extremely well behaved on their first trip together. We couldn't be happier.
Brad,
Great combo. There's nothing like a "road trip" to pick up not just a trailer but the TV as well to keep the heart pumping properly. Good for you. Sometimes one just has to get over the being too cautious hump and go for it, like most of us would have - and did - in our younger days.
There's nothing a stop at WalMart - to pick up a cheap all encompassing tool set, a new battery if there's any question about the old one, have a good look at the belts, tires, fluids and hit the road - doesn't cure.
Look forward to pictures of the interior of both rigs.

Very nice! Love the story and look forward to traveling with you one day; either in our 65 Wagoneer / 54 Safari or 65 Caravel set up or our 59 Buick Electra / 58 Sovereign of the Road. It'll be a blast.

Hello everyone, we have two tow vehicles for our Airstream although we have only towed it twice as it requires extensive renovation before we can use it. The first is my wife's 1996 F150. That truck is her baby, I think she would choose that truck over me. She puts it away every fall and pulls it out of storage every spring. It's fully loaded and still truck looks like new - not like me.
The other is my baby, a 1969 Mercury Marquis hard top - the model with no "b" pillars. I completely restored it five years ago and when we go to car shows I tow our restored 18' 1973 Serro Scotty Highlander. It's definitely nothing like an Airstream but I love that little camper... plus with the 429 Cobra Jet in the Marquis you don't even know the little Scotty is back there. The fuel pump hurts though, gas was $1.23 per litre here in Southern Ontario today.
Ryan
Okay Ryan - we need pictures. We thrive on pictures.
That 429 would haul pretty much anything down the road quite handily.
As for the F150 retaining its good looks while we've aged I can certainly relate. I look like my dad did when he got, in my eyes at the time, really really old, and my wife looks like the sweetheart I dated 42 years ago. Egads, now you HAVE to show pictures of your TV's (and the Scotty).

Thanks guys. We're so excited about this new pair... that this morning we drove out to where the trailer is stored - in a driving rain - and just sat in it for about an hour. Nell, however, was understandably confused.
