Upgraded tires and shocks

Was planning on upgrading from the stock passenger tires that came on my F150 to LT tires when they wore out, but a non-repairable flat gave me an excuse to do it now. I bought Michelin Defender LT 275/65 R18s, and why I was at it ordered and installed Bilstein 4600 shock absorbers. Members on this forum seem to like both of these options. Will be hooking up my trailer in a couple of weeks to try it out.-- Frank

Looks like some good upgrades for your pickup. I have bilsteins on two different vehicles and would recommend them to most anyone. They seem to take a few hundred miles to settle in but are great thereafter. One set has close to 100k miles, the other set has about 60k miles and both are still performing well.

Bilsteins came standard on my 03 tundra...did a great job..smoothed out “washboard” back roads like no other vehicle I’ve driven.
Planning to install them on my 2016 Silverado LTZ 4x4 TV.

Just got back from a 1400 mile round trip with my truck and trailer and the improvements I descibed above made a noticeable improvement. The bounce in the rear I occasionally had is gone and overall the whole setup was very comforatable to drive. In fact its postponed any immediate concerns I had about needing to upgrade to a bigger truck. I have no illusions that I increased the trucks payload but the trailer tows very well and I have to believe the previous passenger tires were one of the weakest components in the stock setup and I'm safer with the LT tires. Of coarse I still plan to stay within my 1800lb payload and axle rating but will be close to it.-- Frank

Glad to see it worked out for you. I did the same a couple years ago on my 2500hd and was very pleased on the results.
A couple of notes..
Get a really good set of flaps...those suckers really throw chips when you get on a freshly treated chip rd or north to Aslaska where chip roads are common place.
Rotate tire every oil change or more. I found towing trailers the rear tires on truck have a tendency to wear more...don't ask me why, but mine sure did .as I stand now, I'll get maybe 40000 out of two tires, probably 60000 the other two.
I'd get it hem again though. Ride and handling is great

Frank and Fran, let us know how you like the Michelin Defenders in the wet / snow (if you get any).

My Ram came with Firestone Tansforce AT’s and they’re not very good in wet driving. *Tire Rack rates them last in the class of similar tires.

I’m assuming that’s not going to get better in the snow. I’m collecting recommendations on replacements when the time comes.

Good luck with your new shock and tire combo!

Smile Bilstein Shocks

Installed 4600 Bilsteins front and rear on my 2018 Ford F-150 XLT. Agree. Takes a about 200 miles to get them broken in. After that, very pleased with the ride. Reduced pavement and road seam noise and feel. Reduced bouncing especially when crossing short bridge. Anderson Hitch.

There is at least one new good option for 18" F-150 tires. My F-150 came with Michelin 275/65 R18 E rated (116T) that require only 45psi max cold.
