I have been up to you know where with computer problems for the past three or more weeks. First my desktop crashes, then my laptop does the same thing. To top it all of, a new program I installed on our church computer caused problems in a data base. So which problem to tackle first?
1. I reloaded the OS on the Laptop plus all of its programs. Finished it about a week ago.
2. Started on the desktop but diverted to the Church computer. The church computer is now a dual boot unit. I will install it again tomorrow before church. Hopefully, it will run like a champ there as it does at my house. When everyone that uses it is happy with the updated OS I will remove Win98SE
3. The desktop is almost totally functional. For some reason it now refuses to load my newer version of Corel Wordperfect. It was on this machine. At the moment I have resorted to an older version. Will attack the install of the newer Corel version problem at a later date.
Some people building a spec home opposite us wondered why I winterized the Airstream about two weeks back. Hah!. I beat the cold snap that came in. Now all my wife and I need is some good weather after January 1 so that we can head south for Arizona/California/death valley. Sometime somewhere I did get onto web site with a long discussion about the proper way to winterize. Somehow I just can't buy the argument that you need to get an airt hose anfd blow out the lines. I think a good flushing with antifreeze is sufficient.

Thanks for the PDF on the 66-81 umbilical wiring diagram. Just checking -- this should go for the 68 Trade Wind 24 ft. Land Yacht.
I just had to pay some good money I could have used for POR-15 because I connected something wrong from my new/vintage 68 Trade Wind to my Jeep's towing package outlet. I blew some fuses, kicked on the check engine light. I think I will leave the AS in the driveway while I rewire the umbilical.
I have the AS plugged into the house at the moment, but I don't know how long that will last because I see in another forum that I should be suspicious of the Univolt's monitoring of the battery charger while leaving the AS connected long-term.
I saw all the back-and-forth about the Univolt, so I don't want to stir up those hornets. My first simple question is, where is the Univolt supposed to be on the 68 Trade Wind, 24 ft, twin model?
Second question, maybe not so simple is, how do I change the Jeep's receiver for the 7-way plug to match the AS 7-way so's I don't make the same mistake again, and throw good money after bad?

Responding to your second question first, many of us prefer to rewire the Airstream to match the current Industry Standard for the Bargman plug rather than rewiring the tow vehicle. There are two reasons for doing so. The first is that it will simplify towing other trailers that you may want to two along the line as nearly everything today is wired to the industry standard. The second reason is that in an emergency situation, it will be much easier to find someone equipped to tow the coach if it has the Bargman wired to the industry standard rather than to the Airstream unique pattern.
I am not certain where the Univolt is located in the post-1965 coaches, but in the earlier 1964-1965 it was typically in the streetside corner of the one-stop service center.
Good luck with your Bargman connector wiring!
Kevin

Hi, Kevin, your response is very helpful. Of course, I would try the opposite first...
I suppose I could re-fit the adapter to correspond to the standard. The first post in this thread has the diagram of my year's connector, so I just need to be sure I can adapt the business end of the AS wiring to the standard, right? Better yet, I think I will just take the whole thing to an expert to be sure it's safely connected. I have to accept that I cannot do some things by myself, especially electrical work and welding. I do pretty well at repairs, but a retro-fit is scary.
Thanks,
Anne
