Umbilical and 7 Pin adaptor issues

Yes..
Buy a length of trailer cord, it's usually a mix of gauges and appropriate colors.
then get a 7-pin round for the trailer end, and a 7-pin flat for the car end, and use the Airstream wiring code on the round end, and the RV standard code on the flat end.
The Airstream code is on their website, the flat end's code is on the box the connector comes in, usually.

you mean change out the airstream end to the smaller modern plug style? The Soveriegn has the plug on the trailer to the left of the tongue, what happens to this covered plug...I am replacing the inside?
I did replace the flat on my 280 to a round..

Nonono, leave the Airstream end intact, and leave the car end intact, just buy 2 different plugs, and connect the wires to the corresponding pins.
You can alos change the car end to a 7-round ( which is electrically superior), but then it won't for any other modern trailer plug.

ok sorry to be thick, but where the heck do I find the end to fit the airstream plug? That is the one I can't seem to locate. I can get a blade or round for the truck no problem...

Actually, you might want to simply order their catalog. You will need wiring supplies, and theirs are good stuff.

Champion Trailers has everything you will need. Also look for a heavy truck store like Fleet Pride or possibly NAPA.

thanks guys, I am slow but I'm coming around.
Now how about my trailer hitch? The AS has the chains and those weight distribution stirrup things, and I have the receiver end with the two balls on it. I guess all I need is the bars. How do I go about figuring out what bars to get? I might find a name on the hitch but haven't yet.

Andy at Inland RV sent me his part # for the trailer plug also.

Found the plug and wire and all locally, as I was cruising for other parts. Now I just have to wire it up, I have the schematic.

My 73 A/S did not come with the umbilical cord. I'm pulling with an 2003 Chevy 1500 that has the standard 7 way blade connector. Most of my research leads me to believe that I will need to remove the old round pin apparatus from the trailer and replace it with a blade. I would prefer keep the original in tact, buy a 7 way connector that will attach on the tow end with a pig tail on the other that I can attach a 7 way round to. Does anyone have any suggestions on locating a 7 way round connector that I can plug in on the trailer side? InlandRV.com has one (part #66266) for $11.50, but they want $15 to ship it. These do not appear to be readily available so I maty just have to grin and bear it. Any alternative suggestions, cautions or advice will be appreciated. I need to get this baby rollin'!

Thanks for the link to motorsportsland. They have a pretty complete selection of parts available online. They have a "Husky" product that enables someone with an original connector with round pins on both ends to convert from round to flat on the tow vehicle. It won't work for me because I need a female connector to plug into the trailer. I'm grateful for your offer to work something out in the event mail order was not available, very kind of you!

Couple of places to look...I bought mine from a local trailer specialist, they sell trailers and anything you could conceivably need for them. Another place would be somewhere that caters to the large trucks. In my area it is T&H Brake service, they specialize in heavy truck parts, possibly a heavy truck dealer would have them. IIRC mine was about $10.
