We pull a 1999 27 foot Safari with our Mercedes GL 350 turbo-diesel, which is also my wife's daily driver. It's a fantastic tow vehicle - we put on close to 4,000 miles pulling the trailer this summer. We are averaging 15.5 MPG when towing the Airstream, and have never been lacking for power or control - no problems going up or down Teton, Donner or Tioga passes. When we aren't towing, we get roughly 25 MPG in mixed driving, which I think is pretty great for large 3 row truck.

The new clean turbo-diesel motors are really great - smooth, no rattles, no diesel smell and lots of torque, even at altitude.

Sweet!!! I always thought we were the only ones in the world that towed an Airstream with an Infiniti sedan (G35). With our V6 we are at 2,700 RPM (4th gear not 5th) at 60MPH. Not a problem as the cabin is very quiet even at the 2,700RPM.

Yes, I was on my bike (pedal bike) the other day and a GL TD went by me. Quiet with no smell. Amazing! They have come a long way since the old 240D days.
