Tow Vehicle Tires - Half Ton
Would appreciate any advice tow vehicle TIRE recommendations. I have another year in this truck before I will swap out for a 3/4 ton. It will be a 2016 GMC Sierra SLT 2500 (Gas).
Until then, I am pulling a 27EB (carefully and for short travels I might add) till then. So I do not intend to skimp on tires for the next year.
Here is my current vehicle:
2014 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 - 5.3 V8
3.42 - GVWR 7200 - GCWR 14000
Front and Rear Axle rating 3950
Current Tire P-rated - Goodyear Wrangler SR-A - Load Index 111 (2403 lbs)
What is the best tire decision i can make?
Appreciate everyone's help.

Around 6 months ago I swapped the stock Goodyears that came on my Titan for 20" versions of the Michelin MS/2. I did in part due to the rave reviews this tire has received on the forums. I could not be happier! The ride is better along with more secure handling. Not cheap but a great choice.

Michelin LTX MS/2, I swapped out my Goodyear SR-A's too. I think they're a terrible OE tire.

MS2 is a great choice, as the Firestone Transforce AT version 2. The update sees siping which improves wet weather traction.

Our 2012 Ram 2500HD diesel came with Michelin LT265/70R17E tires, so I was saved the immediate expense of getting them. Michelin is the only tire I have used for 50 years and never have had a blowout. There have been a few flats from screws and nails, but those are not the ire's fault.
I immediately install Michelin tires on a new vehicle if it did not come with them.

another + for the Michelin's on the 2500. The tires in front don't fit really well, so will chew up your fender wells... but they really work well!

This morning I am rolling in new set of Michelin LTX MS/2's.
I truly appreciate the quick advice. Airforums is a wonderful resource.

Also have a Titan (2012) with Goodyear SR-A's and getting ready to make trip from VA to CO and on to Canada.....never thought about getting new tires....always liked Michelin...do they really make a noticeable difference? Also, being a newbe, what other changes to my TV should I look into?

I can't speak to the specific comparison with the Goodyear SR-A, but replacing a set of Cooper Discoverers with the Michelin M/S2s has made me feel like enjoying an extra year or two of payment-free towing with my F150. Compared to the Discoverers (which still had plenty of tread) they're quieter, ride better, have much better dry traction and the wet traction is a night-and-day improvement.

Crab pot, I totally agree with the previous comments. My Titan is much happier now with the Michelins.

Replacing a used tire with just about any new tire will seem as if the new tire is a gift from heaven. Jim

The ride in these new Michelins is fantastic. Now my TV tires match my TT Tires. Both Michelin LTX MS2's
Not a bad combination. :-)
I've had numerous tires over the years on half tons and there is a distinct and noticeable difference. I am glad I made the change.

P or E rated?
Just curious as to what load index the OP went with. I'm looking at the same kind, but have an F150 and am wondering if the E's are overkill considering my truck can't even carry that much weight. Thanks

My dilemma is with the 275/65r18's, the MS2's only come in P or E. I've been researching the heck out of what I think I really need. Pulling a 25ftFC I was hoping the P's would be good with the right hitch set up. Otherwise I'm looking at cooper AT3's that come in C rating. I would like more of a highway tire for this vehicle considering that's all I'm really on.

OARfan, I had a 2010 F 150 that I ordered. It had the P-rated tires as OEM. I was in Newfoundland and ruined one of those "way-too-light-for-this-truck" tires. As soon as I could after this, I put Michelin LTX MS2 LR-E tires on it. They were a far superior tire to the OEM of which I can't even remember the brand. I got 72K miles from them. I ran 80 psi in them. They impressed me so much that I have the Michelin LTXs on my new '15 F 150. I changed out the OEMs with only 100 miles on them. I, too, have the 16" LTXs on my trailers. I like Michelins !!!

I second the Michelin LTX MS2 nomination....just got our new set yesterday. Replacing the earlier LTX MS's. (56k w 4/32"left) E rated, 28/15 build.
A 4 tire purchase gets a $70 rebate 'til 9/27/15
According to the Michelin Man at Dunn tire that I spoke with, the MS2's are no longer being made. Michelin is replacing them with the "Defender" line. Our size was $2.00 more, but no timetable, popular sizes first, (guess 16" is no longer popular )
The rebate made me do it.
BTW....made in USA
Bob
