Tow Vehicle for early '60s 22ft

We just purchased a '61 Flying Cloud, so now we're researching possible tow vehicles.

Everyone says you can't go wrong with diesel because they're built to tow, but I'm wondering what other owners of early '60s campers (22ft specifically) are using as their tow vehicles - and what would they change to if they could?

Most people use pickup trucks to tow. I believe that any 1/2 ton or greater pickup or SUV would be fine. I would stay away from any SUV smaller than an Jeep Grand Cherokee. Personally, I use a 1977 Lincoln Continental. Any good condition older mid-size to large car, now only a large car, should also work.

I tow a 66 26' Overlander with a Chevy Trailblazer 6 cyl. It does very well. The main thing is the right hitch set up. Search here for more info on that subject as you will able to tow that trailer with a wide selection of vehicles, and don't really need a big truck or diesel unless that is practical for you. The trend is to go to smaller vehicles that get better mileage and work for your needs in other ways.

I just hauled our 1961 Tradewind 400+ miles as the debut trip for my 2008 Mercedes 320 diesel. Let me tell you, it was great! My mileage dropped from 25 to 15, but never missed a beat. Used an Equal-i-zer with 6000 lb bars and never felt a bit of stress from the trailer.
