Tongue weight of a 2018 Flying Cloud 19 Ft.
Greetings, Does anyone have the tongue weight of a 2018 Flying Cloud 19 Ft? I tried the bathroom scale method but came up with 840 lbs.....could that possibly be right? Less than 10% in all the tanks and less than 100lbs of stuff in the trailer. Thanks in advance. Tom in Texas

Tongue weight of a 2018 Flying Cloud 19 Ft.
Thanks, That is what my paper work says from Airstream but when I built the bathroom scale device and followed the online directions it was way over that number. I checked the setup 3 times.

Published number is of dubious value from what I read....
I have never checked mine but this makes me want to.

So, a 19 is a teeter totter. Any addition of weight to front adds to tongue weight. Anything stored in rear takes TW away.
Where is your scale supporting the tongue? If you are supporting the ball coupler where the center of the ball would fit - good. If you are supporting the tongue jack, the weight will be more as the lever arm is shorter. Not much, but it makes a difference. Measure the difference and calculate as a ratio. One foot from the ball and nine from the axle is 10% more than the actual tongue weight.
About 290#s of additional tongue weight is not going to be incurred by 100#s of gear, no matter where it is stored. The hitch parts will add weight to the tongue. Water or waste adds weight at about 8#s per gallon. Since 5 gallons is 40#s it adds up quickly. Since check valves leak, it's possible you have more liquids than you think. The shore water may have filled your fresh water tank. Are you counting the starter set of gear the dealer usually provides? Electrical cable is not light. Sewer hose is light, but part of the load. Hose is same. Bedding and pillows add to the weight, but that is likely in the rear of the coach. You do have the coach dead level. Low tongue adds and high takes it away.
Keep reviewing what you have and the numbers will level out. That is, unless your dealer stored that complementary gold bar in front. Pat

Thanks
I measured the weight from where the hitch ball goes in. I am going to re-visit my storage shed tomorrow and redo it all over again. I should have taken some photos. Thanks again. I'm still hoping someone out there has weighed there 19 footer.

There was a poster in that thread who had a lot lower TW - close to factory spec. Enter 19 tongue weight in blue box upper right and search - may help some. Pat

Thanks for that info......
Been reading those posts for 40 min and the weights are all over the place. I wish I would have had the dealer weigh it at walk through but being our first trailer the thought never occurred to me. I am towing with a 2018 Nissan Armada with a max tongue weight of 900 lbs. and thought it would be way more than I would ever need to pull that little 19 footer.

I'm certain your Armada will take the load. Don't forget the Equalizers take some of that load and distribute it to both the front wheels and the trailer wheels

I have a Flying Cloud 20' and weighed the tongue weight using the boom from my backhoe and a legal-for-sale crane weight. I got 608# with the tanks full (all 3 and mine are in the rear) and 691# fully loaded with empty grey and black tanks and 50% fresh water). My trailer is about 500# heavier than yours but this certainly makes your 840# seem way too high to be believable. AS claims mine is 631# and my full-empty weights are slightly on either side of their number. I suspect yours are also.

Thanks for the info
Mine has just the fresh water up front with just a few gallons in it. When I re set up the bathroom scale and weighed myself and multiplied times 2 instead of three it came out to my exact weight,105lbs X 2=210lbs. When I times the trailer by 2 it = 560lbs. Until I buy a real hitch weight scale I'm going with that number for my 19' Airstream. Thanks all for your input/help.

The multiplyer is the distance ratio. One ft vs 2 ft is a example.
https://www.etrailer.com/faq-how-to-...ue-weight.aspx
Figure B showes a base of 1 ft with a lever choice of 2 or 3 ft, which is a 2x or 3x multiplier. Sounds like you figured out the correction. Well done. The RV world is one new learning opportunity after another. You are going to really enjoy the CAT scale cross check to verify all axles are in spec. Cool adventures. Pat

Tongue weight on my new International Serenity 28 (fully loaded) is 961lbs. I was expecting more.

You just saved me $139.00 + tax and shipping. I don't know about yours but ours tows like a dream. It was a long story but we ended up turning down the weight distribution hitch.
